The Athbah Stud International Arabian Racing Stakes (Group 2 ) over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
A competitive renewal of this race which is often used as a Derby trial for the four year olds, that said the likely market leaders are Bill Smith’s outstanding mare Nokomys who recently landed the 1 Mile President of UAE Cup in Ireland; and the five year old Breeders Cup winner and dual winner this term Tidarbret, HH Sheikh Hamdan’s smart dual winning performer Al Janoob and the Athbah Stud’s American Bob Magness Derby winner Theoretically. The selection is Nokomys who has been so impressive throughout her career including when winning a Group 2 event over a mile at Sandown and narrowly beaten in last years Group 1 Hatta Stakes over this course and distance; she stormed home in Ireland in May over a mile and looks capable of taking this event on her way to another tilt at the Hatta. Dangers come from the rapidly improving Tidarbret who looked pretty classy when winning at Huntingdon over this trip, but looked simply phenomenal when beating Thimaar a head at Wolverhampton over a mile (with Al Charif and Cricket Du Loup beaten in behind), he holds an entry in the Group 1 Dubai Stakes and it would be no surprise to see him land victory here. The Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Al Charif was disappointing at Wolverhampton last week when 5th to Tidarbret, but all his form in France has been on turf and he may not have handled the all weather surface, last term he was top class winning twice in France as a juvenile landing the Prix Nez D’Or and the Group 1 Qatar Breeders Cup Juvenile; he won his only start in the UAE in February when winning the Group 3 Arabian Triple Crown Round 3 and will take all the beating today if back to form.

The Athbah Stud International Arabian Racing Stakes (Group 2 )over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs: An intriguing and nail biting finish to this competitive renewal of this race. There wasn’t a huge amount of pace at the start as the small field all stayed fairly close, which inevitably led to a sprint finish in the final furlongs with Nokomys, Adjinn D’Aroco and Al Janoob all blazing a trail to the finish line and with less than half a length separating them at the line. The worthy Gill Duffield trained winner was HH Sheikh Hamdan’s smart looking Adjinn D’Aroco (Tidjani x Asbaa D’Aroco), who holds an entry in the Group 1 Dubai Stakes at Newbury, he stuck his neck out and just claimed victory under a power packed ride from Ted Durcan. Just a neck back in second was a desperately unlucky Nokomys (Amer x KTP Mystic Flight) now running under the colours of Athbah Stud Ltd, she was a narrow second and remains a big threat in the Group 1 Hatta Stakes. Whilst Al Janoob (Magic De Piboul x Ester Du Paon) ran a race full of promise on his seasonal debut and was again only a neck back in third, he looks to be progressing nicely and also holds an entry in the Group 1 Dubai Stakes and it would be no surprise to see him turn the tables on his victorious stablemate in July and is one to note.
