Posted - 04 Jun 2010 : 09:53:21 AM If you've ever thought about having a go at endurance riding but not actually got around to it, this short video of Patchwork Polly winning the 120k race ride at Dukeries Ride in May might just tempt you, of course there's lots of shorter distances to start with but this video for me shows just how much horses love it and how proud their owners and riders are of them and of course how well cared for they are. Patchwork Polly is not an arab of course but I'll think you will agree she is a lovely horse and it proves that it's not just arabs that can do well in endurance although there are more arabs competing than other breeds and don't miss the fantastic scenery in the background. Here's the link, the music makes it, enjoy.

Posted - 06 Jun 2010 : 9:21:47 PM Thank you. That was lovely. I have had a good sob now! I should have been at the Dukeies - only doing a novice but my boy has developed seasonal heads shaking and it has all gone pear shaped.
I am going to keep watching this to keep me motivated to keep positive.
Very well done to horse, rider and crew. |

Posted - 05 Jun 2010 : 10:52:19 PM I do endurance riding (although I only do the smaller distances) and have just the utmost respect for horses and riders doing these distances. What an achievement! Brilliant video! |

Posted - 05 Jun 2010 : 11:20:19 AM Polly is a 14yr old Trotter x (i'm sure there must be some arab in there somewhere) and her owner, rider and crew are all very touched by all your kind comments. Sue |

Posted - 04 Jun 2010 : 2:51:30 PM Nicola I don't know Polly's breeding she is described by her connections as a cob. Laura yes that would be a nice foal I bet. Miska, one of the toughest things about an endurance race is having to wait for the result of the final vetting. Although the horse crossed the line first it still has to pass a rigorous vetting before it can be announced as the winner, hence the rather anxious expression on the handlers face and the relief when they are given the thumbs up.
Glad you all liked it, it brought a lump to my throat when I watched it. Sue |

Posted - 04 Jun 2010 : 12:05:20 PM Miska, because it was a 120km race ride, it definitely matters who crosses the line first, and she did incredibly well to hold off the grey |

I don't know much about endurance...but does it matter who crosses the finish line first? As the grey almost overtook at the end.
Love the bit when they find out how well they did :D |

video made me very emotional... I have no horse to use for endurance at the moment, as I lost my TB in an field accident last year... and my boy is just 3 this year... but I do miss it. |
