A friend of mine has been contacted by a woman asking for help with her horses, so she went down to see the woman and because she felt so sorry for the poor ponies she has bought 2 from her at £500 each ! then she told Donna ( my friend) that she has foals due and then she puts the mares straight back in foal again ! I was outraged and told Donna not to go ahead with buying these poor creatures as paying the woman only encourages her to keep breeding them.
Now I want to send the correct authorities round to this woman , (I think the RSPCA will be a waste of time) because they sound in a dreadful state, Donna thinks they have ring worm, Lice, have never had their feet done, are stick thin.
Poor Donna since going there has been unable to sleep and thinks that at least she can save two ! but honestly she shouldn't be paying £1,000 just to rescue two , they ALL need rescuing which one should I contact , incidentally Donna made some remark to the woman about not breeding if she cant feed them , and the woman became threatening ! telling her it was none of her business , so now she fears this woman. Donna is coming here tomorrow and we are going to decide which is the best route to take, trouble is Donna now fears this woman will become aggresive to her and her horses if the authorites go there now even though I have said I will take full responsibility and I will contact them !

Well Donna has been round , and I hope I have persuaded her not to buy from this woman , who sounds more and more like a professional con artist !
she has gone armed with the website address and phone numbers of IPLH, plus if she gets grief from this woman she will phone the police.
I hope we can get something done , as she tells me they had one small container of water that had green slime on the top of it, no food, long long hooves , obviously not wormed, and she told Donna she is getting a loan so that she can use as certain stallion on her mares !

Local Trading Standards Animal Welfare may be a better option - ILPH, like the RSPCA, have no real powers.

I saw a series on the TV about the ILPH, the cameras followed some of the inspectors, the ones featured seemed to be ex Mounted Police, which I think makes them very well qualified to deal with the horse issues and the people. I was very impressed, they don't mess about.

I would be very interested to know the outcome as to what the ILPH say as I too have a so called friend who is doing the same thing and doesn't seem to see any harm in it all. She bought a welsh A colt a few years ago and covers her mares after they have foaled and never seems to sell anything. I don't think they are registered or even had a wormer down their throats!! This woman doesn't own a blade of grass has no transport for her animals and calls on me when things go wrong and like a real muggins I step in. I only do it for the ponies but my OH says it has to stop or she will never learn.

I think you are right Lynda in not going to see them as you will be very anrgy or drawn in to help her out

Thanks , yes I will contact IPLH, Donna wants me to go with her to this womans, but I know I will start getting angry, and I will say something to her, plus I wont sleep either if I see these ponies.( what a coward I am) I will keep you up to speed on what happens.

Go to the local press, or the Daily Mail, they love animal rights stories....

I would try ILPH, they do seem to keep checking.

What a sad situation for these animals.

I feel for your friend but if nothing is done surely
she would feel terrible. I am sure if the woman threatens
her she could go to the police and so on. I love my horses
beyond life itself but i would never be threatened by someone
because you have to think how you would feel if those poor
horses end up like others we have seen in the past. I agree
i dont think the way to go is to buy them either. I really
hope you can sort out the best situations for your friend and
those horses

Lynda we have a similar situation near to us - mares no sooner foal, stallion covers again, foals flogged off cheap to local market and the whole cycle starts all over again. Similar type of woman - every conceivable agency has been trying to sort this situation out for years!!! What was the ILPH - now World ??? seem to be the most determined and the best, so I would contact them.

Good luck, why these people can't find something else to do with their lives and leave the poor ponies alone beggars belief.
