WHAT IS WRONG WITH GELDINGS IN THIS CONTRY!!! got an early phone call that my wooden fence was down and all my horses in the same field. Ginger had smashed 30 yards of fencing in yet another attack on my stallion... first attack cost me a fortune in vet bills because he kicked so the leg was open into the tendon... 2 time i had Champ on head collar and lead rope leading trough Gingers field, but Ginger still attacked (however I kicked him and he went off... this time (3 time) cost me 5 hours of hard work fencing. and Sunday vet for my boy, vet is coming back tomorrow morning cause it doesn't look good and due to where it sits he cant stitch it up as it will split open when Champ moves, yet again Ginger send him through the meat mincer, this time there is no tendon visible but lovely bone instead, and Ginger only got a tiny bite himself. BLOODY THING!!! the pony gelding in the yard is even worse.. he makes Ginger look like an angel!!!!

everything was fine again this morning.

I got a phonecall from the director of the syndicate, they are going to pay for my vets bills, and reparing my fencing. Ginger is going to be sold to a trainer in Devon that has let them know he was interested (that's if he still wants him)

Pro cell is fab stuff - wonder if it's obtainable here now?

Boys will be boys, Ginger is doing what boys do sometimes in the wild, establishing his territory ( or so he thinks)!
it falls to us to make sure they dont have a chance to fight but that is not always easy, knowing what Ginger is like with fencing I wouldnt put him in a barbed wire fenced field myself ( could be more vets bills?), sorry its not very constructive help, hope your boy continues to heal

Ginger has now been turned out with the cows, but that means barbwire fencing and I'm not happy about that.... however now he will have to go through 2 sets of barbwire and the wooden rail+ live rope fencing to get to champ... hope it will be enough.

Keren... thank you very much, my vet had some wonder stuff last time, but will ask him for pro cell tomorrow morning when he comes back.

Ginger has never acted like this before... the first time happened as he was turned out with mine and there was NO PROBLEMS at all for a good month, then from one second to the next I saw Ginger go up to Champ and hammer him one... then due to the way the field layout is, and the psycho gelding pony being on full time turn out, I had to fence off the big field so Ginger had the first bit, and Champ + Kwi the back bit, only with live tape in between them, it worked fine... Ginger then decides he wouldn't go in at night, so for a good week I lead Champ + Kwi through Gingers field, before spending 30-50 minutes to catch Ginger (this worked FINE and was the only way I could catch Ginger)... when they went on full time turn out, Ginger got moved the stallion field with 140cm wooden rails+ live rope on his side, as there wasn't much grass on his bit of the field... and Champ + Kwi was still on the back bit of the big field... this has worked perfect for 3 weeks, until this morning... when Ginger lost the plot again....

It was supposed to be fun and easy to look after him again, he is owned by a racing syndicate, and they only cover his feed... so far it has cost me over £500 in vet bills... and about £100 to repair my fencing today... they just say they are sorry... but no offer to cover anything.

Vet thinks it should heal as nicely as last time... I'm just annoyed with the way being nice to others has now cost my horse to get hurt twice!

Can I get this straight---first time Ginger attacks Champ and does a lot of damage; second time, you are leading Champ through Ginger's field, knowing Ginger hates Champ??????? Third time, it sounds's if they were turned out on either side of a post and rail fence, knowing how much Ginger hates Champ??? I'm sorry, but if that was me, just maybe there would have been a first time---I have no idea of the cicumstances there---but no way would there have been a second time or a third time. I would have made sure they were never in close enough proximity.
I hope Champ will be okay. Poor boy really sounds like the innocent victim here.

Practically all the trouble I have ever had with horses has been STARTED by (non-Arab) geldings. I much prefer my nice quiet stallions!

Ask your vet to see if he can get hold of a Swedish product called Pro-Cell. My vet used it on my filly on an unstitchable wound caused by a 'nice, quiet gypsy cob gelding' bullying her so badly she staked herself to get away! It literally worked wonders.
