My grazing is on acid soil and last year were full of creeping buttercups. I've bought some lime and am wondering how soon after spreading it I can put the horses on to graze, I'm presuming it has to rain in.

Thanks everyone-think I might have to spray as my youngster developed photosensitisation last year from the buttercups. I'll check out mcpa.

i used a spray last year to get rid of my ragwort, it also got rid of the buttercups too, i think it was called Agritox?

I've just had my summer fields sprayed with weed killer as we have loads of buttercups.

The farmer told me to leave the horses off of it for 2 weeks. He said it didn't matter if it didn't rain, just keep them off for 2 weeks. They have shrivelled a bit but are not completely dead....! I hope they do die otherwise i've wasted my money...

The 2 weeks was up on Saturday. I put them on the summer grass for half a day Saturday and a full day Sunday. They are being moved back to the winter field at nights. This week i'll do nights on the summer field and days on the bald winter field and then they should be ok to go out 24/7 on the summer field from the end of this week.

I like to spread it out slowly so they can adjust to the new grass which is quite rich and has grown quite a bit in the 2 weeks it rested.

Hi - just about to lime our meadow. Have you had your soil analized ?? One of ours needs 2 tonnes per acre :/ It is safe to put horses on once it has washed in no problem BUT whatever you do DONOT fertilize as it'll burn your grass right off and you'll be left with nothing !!!
We find we have to actually spray our buttercups - can't remember the name of the stuff - and thats quite nasty stuff. Stock has to stay off for 2 weeks !!

Th trouble with the buttercups is that they have such a huge corm,(root) that enables them to overcome a lot of weeedkillers. Yes...Ihave a problem too!

I would be interested in the answer to this too as we have a couple of fields with buttercups in and are planning to treat them aswell
