Posted - 23 Apr 2010 : 9:59:45 PM This afternoon when I got to the yard, yard owner came to me. Today the farm had 2 men show up, asking how many horses we had, and if they could walk out in the fields and take pictures of them, as they had just been to photograph the 20 horses at the nearby yard.
Yard owner told them that they couldn't as they didn't have my permission.
But they said they would come back and ask me for permission.
I'm thinking this sounds weird in my world.. 2 adult men... I mean if it was 2 young girls I would let them take the pictures, but as I've been reading on here about horse theft, I'm thinking this sounds as if they are out to see whet is in the area, show pictures to a potential client, and nick my horses.... am I being paranoid? |

Posted - 03 May 2010 : 2:26:57 PM It sounds to me like the kind of people who take arial shots of your house, frame them really nice then go round door to door selling them. And let's face it, i am sure many of us would be tempted to buy one if someone turned up with a lovely picture of our best friend?!... Good sales technique ....
Glad you have got to the bottom of it though xx |

Posted - 02 May 2010 : 9:54:17 PM He was back in the yard yesterday... he did have a lovely portfolio. and does have a website... he is part of a group called ponytales.
I haven't had any pictures done, but feel safer now... and might use him this summer, if my normal photographer from Denmark doesn't have time to come and visit us. |

Posted - 26 Apr 2010 : 10:26:34 AM Sounds strange I wouldn't allow anyone to take photo's of the horses on a yard unless I knew them, I would google the name or if they show up again take a phone number, if it is above board they will oblige. You cant trust anyone these days it is a sad thought. |

Posted - 25 Apr 2010 : 2:24:57 PM The police will understand contact them and ask for your local horse liason officer and explain whats happened , they will probably put it on there website to report things like this also ask yard owners if they appear again to get the registration and type of car etc
did the other yard owner get the full name of what was on there t-shirts ? if so google or check it out in the yellow pages if anything comes up phone and ask if they had anyone from there company going around yards to take pics ? my feeling is that they wont as it does not sound the way photography firms work i too would be worried so no i dont think your just being paranoid |

Posted - 25 Apr 2010 : 11:12:32 AM Definately mention it to the police, they may have had other complaints about these people and if they have, they may look into it more |

Posted - 24 Apr 2010 : 6:18:43 PM Just tell the police what you've told us, they'd rather you reported it than had your horses stolen after all. Please, do report it. |

Posted - 24 Apr 2010 : 4:58:21 PM Just got home from the yard... went to see the yard up the road... a few things in the men's story doesn't sound right.
The yard up the road has 15 horses not 20... and the yard owner didn't allow them to take pictures... however he says they were dressed in what looked like company clothes, with Equine portrait photography something written on it.. so if it was a scam it was a good one he said.
I just don't understand why they would need to go door to door to get clients?... why didn't they leave a business card instead of just wanting to come back another day?
I have no idea what to say to the police, and they might find me being a bit paranoid... but went to the local feed store and told the girls there so they can spread the word.
I'm not going to let them anyway near my horses! |

Posted - 24 Apr 2010 : 12:03:42 PM Sounds pretty odd. Awful isn't it, you never know if you're being paranoid? I took my youngest daughter out for a ride the other saturday morning. It was a gorgeous morning and my 3 year old looked very cute up on Mary. I saw 2 older men walking towards up with cameras. As we got closer one of them said "mind if i take her picture?" I was about to say "NO!" when he took a picture and said "oh well, done now"!!! I got a really horrible feeling about it, and he sneered at me as he walked past. All sorts of vile images went through my head. What could i do? Call the police? What are they going to do? I still feel sick now thinking about it. Sad world we live in isn't it? Ros x

Posted - 24 Apr 2010 : 09:40:53 AM Thank you all... I will go to the nearby yard today (never been there before, so might be nice to see some other horsey people too)... I don't have any other details then it was 2 adult men... but will have a chat with yard owner...
I haven't got a clue what police area I'm in... I live in Worcester city, but have the horses near Lower Broadheath.
My only comfort at the moment is that yard owner lives on site, and you can't enter my fields without driving past his house... he is luckily a very observant old man.... oh yes, and the fact that Champ won't load for someone he doesn't know. |

Posted - 24 Apr 2010 : 08:28:43 AM I would call the police. Sounds very odd to me. If you are West Mercia they have got an e-bulletin that they send round about dodgy people as part of our neighbourhood watch scheme. |

Posted - 23 Apr 2010 : 11:28:01 PM I wouldn't feel happy about it. I would definately go and speak to the nearby yard and ask if they had the same enquiry and if they allowed it. Did your yard owner make a note of the vehicle that they were driving, by any chance?
