Posted - 13 Apr 2010 : 11:55:16 PM Very sad news - after almost 23 years with me, Garnet was PTS yesterday morning in her field amongst her friends and with the sun on her. She has been very well, enjoying retirement and cantering down the field to be with her boyfriend, but yesterday her big stiff knees finally let her down. She was such a little star - when she came to me she was a newly backed baby and I was a novice rider but we did more than I could ever have hoped for, both in competition and the many miles of high-speed hacks we enjoyed over the years. I shall miss her more than I can say; she was such a huge part of my life.
Garnet at Malvern
Garnet at the Cherif
Garnet's last public performance - winning Adult Fancy Dress (and fastest round the arena!) August 2006. I made our costumes for Haydock 1989. Mine seemed to be sadly outgrown!
Garnet last summer
Garnet with Jim the Cob on her 26th birthday last year. I was sad to think that they wouldn't be together for this birthday but now they will be. Both loved and missed so much. |

Posted - 15 Apr 2010 : 3:55:28 PM Sue, I remember considering Forge Gay Gordon as a husband for Garnet but unfortunately we were never on a yard where I could have bred from her until she was too old for a first foal. She had to make do with her entourage of dedicated geldings! Zooscat, I'm glad the rude cob cheered you up in the midst of your present traumas! |

Posted - 14 Apr 2010 : 8:04:35 PM Marilyn, you have taken so many beautiful photos of Garnet over the years, and the Malvern one I have used here is my favourite of all. We have always made a point of having lots of pics because when I lost her predecessor, Autumn Light, after only 6 months, we had hardly any decent photos and I was determined not to make the same mistake again. I can now look back over so many happy times. |
