Hi All,
Thought it was about time for another Rebel update.

For new members here is the original thread
http://www.arabianlines.com/forum1/topic_new.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=27428&SearchTerms=rebel

We took him to his 1st ever show back on the 4th of nov and he came 7th
http://www.arabianlines.com/forum1/topic_new.asp?TOPIC_ID=37354&SearchTerms=rebel

But on the way home he was very naughty with us having to stop 3 times.
So trust typical rebel we had more major lameness after he done damage to his hamstring.
End of Jan we had the ok to start riding him again, 4 weeks of walking building it up
And guess what HE IS STILL SOUND I’m so happy he is walking and trotting amazingly he flicks his feet I’ve never seen a connemara move like him. He is a propa show off.

The farrier has said that all the bruising is coming out through his soles now, so he must have had some really bad bruising

Our local show starts walk and trot tests in 3 weeks so im going to get one of the girls off the yard to take him in them. Thankfully it’s only a 20min hack there as I can’t afford another huge vet bill is I took him in my trailer.
Ill have to try and take another video and pics of him being ridden at home he is proper muscles up now

"worth it to the horse to rehome him or PTS"!!! That's terrible---I reckon most horses feel their lives are worth living, whether or not they can be ridden---unless of course they are suffering---and a horse charity should be looking after the ones that can't be useful to humans, not just cherry picking the ones they can put out to ridden homes. It's just as well he was lame and you found out their true colours, otherwise they might have taken him, only to have him PTS a few months down the line if he became lame again. I hope you manage to find a wonderful loan home for him and can keep in touch.
precious Posted - 17 Jun 2010 : 09:57:03 AM
well she basically said i need to find out what it is with him. I explained that he has had the FULL works done x-rays, nerve blocking, thermal, physio, blood pressure etc etc etc but she kept going on about they have to decide if its worth it to the horse to try and re-home them or PTS.
This broke my heart as i know rebel has had the all clear from all those things and he is the most sweetest boy you could ever want.
When i was telling her about his areas that need working on like around his ears he panics he totally proved me wrong as he let me groom his face and play with his ears!!!
Im going to ring the farrier and get the gel put on his soles as this acts like a cusion on the hard ground so now my farrier bills for him will b over £100 every 6 weeks :( if it works then great, im just going to have to try and find a private loan home for him someone i can trust which will take the time now as i cant afford them both :(

So do the Blue Cross only want him if he is rideable? Doesn't sound very charitable........it's one of my big problems with WHW ( formerly ILPH) as well -they only ever seem to take horses that are sound and can be fostered out.Surely a rescue charity should be "rescuing" the others?
precious Posted - 17 Jun 2010 : 09:41:07 AM
the blue cross had to re-arrange the visit to yesturday.
rebel has been golden with the ridden the last few weeks so i was really looking forward to the visit as he was now walking and trotting in a lovely outline.
I got up the yard bout half hour before the blue cross turned up.

To my horror i went to get rebel out field and we was greated by a very stiff sore rebel.

Im sure he knew how important this day was and had decided he didnt want to go anywhere.
Obv the blue cross wasnt interested and i felt like an idiot as they had come out and he was lame.

So back at stress worry level with him. I really dnt think its anything but the hard ground and him having a bit too much fun with the other geldings yest as he has done it before and vet confirmed it was how the ground had gone from soft to rock hard.

Oh Gemma I'm so sorry after all you have been through together. I wish something could be done to help you keep him but you are doing the responsible thing by getting the Blue Cross in today agony though it must be .

Will be thinking of you later .

Well done it sounds like he was lucky to find you.
precious Posted - 26 May 2010 : 09:34:57 AM
update:
The blue cross are coming to see him today at 4pm.
ive nearly cancelled them loads of times but my situation hasnt changed to still cant afford to keep them all. My PBA is out on loan now, ive been offered grazing to turn him out on but i cant risk him on it as a bought of lami i think will finish him off and he loves attention of people.
Im still trying to think of options but dnt think ive got any unless a perfect loan home comes up who i can trust or i win the lottery.

Ive just got to try not to break down when they come to see him.
precious Posted - 29 Mar 2010 : 12:00:29 PM
thank you alpacastoo but yep id agree with you Rebel is going to need a experienced rider as he wants to do a job, hacking he is golden but ridden work trott and canter he can be strong and a charature.
:( i just think this is going to be the safest option for rebel if i cant keep him :(
alpacastoo Posted - 29 Mar 2010 : 11:53:30 AM
That is so sad Precious. You have been through so much together. If I could help I would. My OH and my step daughter are thinking of learning to ride but they would need a very very quiet horse but Rebel might be too much for them.
I do hope you find a happy solution and send lots of hugs at this difficult time.

hi all,
ive been thinking very hard about Rebels future and this has been the worst weekend every for me as i have finally had to accept that i cant afford to keep going how i am now

Im filling up now as i write this
I have rang the blue cross and they have sent me our the paperwork to see if they can have rebel off me.

I WONT sell him as its his future but i cant affort to keep all 3 of my horses. I have even put my BNC PBA up for loan. Money is not an issue with him its his safety!!

Im still paying off Rebels vet bills and know that he is sound and ridden again i think i have done all i can. Although he is the most suitable horse out of all mine for me to ride. I made myself a promise when i rescued him that is i could no longer afford my horses that i would find a home for him 1st

I was going to look for someone to loan him but i cant risk the fact that they might hammer him and cripple him and then ill be back to square one with him
Ive been spreading word locally for a loving perminant loan home but people want jumping horses but he isnt ready for this!

Im writing a big letter all about rebel to send with the paperwork to the blue cross but i keep having to stop and take a breather and to wipe away the tears.

Im just feeling that i have let him down and when ever i look at him i cry.

Oregana rebel found me lol i needed another horse like a whole in the head but i love him to bits which i why i'd never be able to sell him but i cant financially keep all 3 and keep um in full work :(
Oregana Posted - 24 Mar 2010 : 09:37:45 AM
I've just read through your previous thread on Rebel. What a lucky horse to have found you to care for him and love him. You deserve a medal.
Write a book about him to earn more money to keep him. I'd buy it!

Keeping fingers crossed for his W&T tests - can't wait to see more vids
precious Posted - 23 Mar 2010 : 3:54:40 PM
alpacastoo he isnt too happy on a lorry he panics, but he had to go for many trips in a trailer to my excellent vets about 40mins away and to be honest he was good as gold.
But i didnt think and i took him to the dressage with another horse in trailer too, the other horses is good as gold and was tied up well. But i think rebel paniced. he played up that much we had to keep stopping and he bent his back shoes :(
So next time he will only ever be travelled on his own!

Im still in shock he is sooo sound :) fingers crossed it will stay.
alpacastoo Posted - 23 Mar 2010 : 3:26:22 PM
Wow.... just read your threads on Rebel (or did you end up calling him Chance?)
What a journey you have both been on.
His injuries made me think that perhaps he had been dragged - many years ago I witnessed a dealer winching a horse (yes winching it!) up a ramp - the horse fell but he kept on winching it.
Yes I did intervene..... but I am too polite to print what was said !

So glad he is better... I take it he really doesn't like travelling.
precious Posted - 23 Mar 2010 : 3:21:44 PM
Hi zooscat, he had his teeth done about a month ago and they were sharp. Yep the YO a very good rider as rebel ant easy u cant use ur leg really without him shooting off so u got to be relaxed. Im more of a stiff rider so he goes better with nigel.

Ill never sell him im struggling to keep all 3 of mine so might look for a sharer or the right person for loan x
zooscat Posted - 23 Mar 2010 : 3:17:10 PM
Welldone Precious!![bow) Wll done Rebel - and your YO who rode him. Nice quiet rider. (Just looked at the video) Not suprised R got very fraught in the lorr/trailer. He had a horrid time in there via the dealer didn't he. Anyway, I'm sure that over time and with patience - which you've got in spades that will be sorted out. Has rebel had his teeth looked at? Seemed a litle bit unsteady in the head carriage - and that was the first thing I got sorted with Ry when I got him and he was very uncomfortable in his mouth (more nasty dealer stories - no offence to nice dealers - I've met one or two, but more of the other sort)and felt more comfortable when we'd got that sorted. I'm sure you have - just a thought.
So glad you could keep him - and I bet he is too!!
