thanks for your comments. Catqueen i cant just change a horses name all i have known him as is sulan so i dont know who kept that name for him he was called sulan when i bought him and when i had him on loan 3 years ago. I cant just change a horses name after all he is 15 this year and that is all he has known. |

Lovely picture he looks like his jumping it with ease, cant offer any more advice I don't really do jumping anymore, I do agree that lessons are a great idea I love mine, and I am sure your not a dreadful rider. |

Lovely Arab, lovely athletic jump. Really good that you are committed to learning how to be "with"him in jumping. Polework and gridwork is a really good idea. Claire Lilley has written some good books on this, if you can get hold of any of them. Ryazan is one of those "bold" jumping types - i.e. rush, rush, rush, like Sulan - and thats after 11years of steady schooling! Actually - he is a bit better, but gets rather excited if there is a course to do - better cross country where we are progressing somewhere. Grid work has greatly improved him and me - both much more balanced and in control. Fun to do as well and can be a change from plain flatwork. Good luck! Keep going, and do get lessons if you can, even if its only once a month. Find someone who is encouraging and positive - you are NOT a "rubbish rider"  |

You'll find your lessons well worth the money. All the best riders keep having tuition all their riding lives - it's not just for beginners!!
Sulan looks a very attractive horse and you're lucky, cos not everyone's Arab is as happy to jump.
Stick with it! The secret is to get into the habit of riding in the correct position, and then everything else becomes more secure and your confidence will grow. It can take a while to change old riding habits but it's worth the struggle. Lots of us on here have been through it (and still working on being better horsewomen!). |

thank for your comments i am starting lessons soon as i am such a dreadful rider in my eyes i am and it doesnt help when all sulan wants to do is rush rush rush. so we both need to start from scratch. |

Great that you're jumping your Arab. They are really fabulous jumpers and brilliantly bold if they have the jumping bug!
If I were you, I'd practice by creating some grids in your school; two or three very small cross poles so you and your horse can do some practice. You can get used to sitting up with your legs down at the girth, and letting the horse go over the poles, and he/she will get used to finding a rhythm going over obstacles while you're balanced on top.
Better still if you can get a teacher to come to your arena and be the 'eye' to correct you both as you get this off to an art!! It's really worth the money if you can possibly afford it. You'll notice the difference right through the lesson!

IMO lovely athletic jump - hope you don't mind me saying, but I wouldn't let my daughter go over the jump in that direction - if you knock the pole it may trip you up? - If you jump it the other way the pole will fall easier.
