Posted - 10 Mar 2010 : 11:09:53 PM As you know poor Merlin triped and got a hairline break on his front left leg. It is now in a cast as he kept bashing it on the stable. As if that wasnt bad enough the leg is sore and weak Merlin is finding it hard to get up and down in his stable, the vet is going to come and cheak him at the end of the week, i hope he gets better. But i think it will take alot. I wonder if it's 2 much to ask this time after his jumping accident last year, he's not as young as he used to be and it's starting to show. Doesnt help that he is a tall, and big built horse.
All your healing thoughts needed for my four legged best friend!

Posted - 11 Mar 2010 : 11:35:15 AM So sorry to hear of poor Merlin, hope he gets well soon,When Arabi pulled all the muscles in his shoulder we tied him up in the stable for three days to stop him lying down, to stop him damaging it further definitely worth asking the vet about this. Good luck x |

Posted - 10 Mar 2010 : 11:39:18 PM That's such a shame Meggie-Lu.
A thoroughbred at my yard got kicked whilst playing a few weeks ago and initially there was no visible fracture on x-ray or ultrasound but the Vet adviused to treat as though it was a fracture (and a fracture was confirmed on Monday). The Vet recommended cross-tying so Seraph can't lay down, as he says it is such a strain/twisting motion on the leg when a horse gets up again. Luckily Seraph, although very bored and grumpy, has been cross-tied for about 3 weeks now (he did break a rope once and get down for a roll.....and then didn't know how to get up again, but no harm done, luckily) and he is doing well. The Vet also advised giving wet feeds and to ensure he drinks plenty as he will be more prone to impaction colic as he won't be moving around.
I wonder if any of the above will give you some ideas to discuss.
All the best to Merlin.
