Hi guys,

Omg being back in the horse world and coming accross this site has so made me want to get another arab. Sadly i had to have my boy put to sleep as he lacerated his pastern and after many attempts to get him back to full health i had to let him go.:(

Since then i have started making leather items and after receiving some wonderful comments i decided that i would love to make some items for Arabs as they really are my dream horses and would love if you guys could help me with some ideas?

At the moment i am learning but loving every minute as it has allowed me to get back into the horse world which i have soooo missed, but coming on here and seeing the Arabs has just made me melt at the nees.

Here are a few photos of my boy that sadly is know longer with us, but will live on in all my future work oh and a few of my bands that me and hubby have made :) Can not wait to hear your ideas, who better to speak to than other like minded Arab lovers :)

Wow thank you guys You have given me some fantastic ideas. I have taken a look at some of the arab bridle companies and you are correct in regards to pricing. They are stunning but very expensive. In regards to sizing what would you say are the average sizes of an arab, obviosly from what i can gather getting a bridle or head collar to fit is really hard.
On average what are the sizes for foal, up to adult? From research i have done small cob bridles tend to fit most arabs is this correct. Again i would like to say a huge thank you to you all. I have a friend who is an arab breeder so may ask her for sizes but her horses are not particulary fine in the face. Would love if you can for you guys to give me ideas on your horse sizes.

the Brooke Hospital is a very well worth horse charity, you can google it for donations .

Thank you so much every one You have given me some great ideas. Does any one have any images of what bridles would be ideal for your arabs. The sort of sizes that would be ideal for the arab. Would you say arab owners prefer fine rolled leather to suit the delicate shape of the horse or would it be nice to see some of the finer bridles with more design options. Also What would you say were reasonable prices for such work. Part of the business plan i have to do involves vast amounts of market research and you guys have helpe so much as the web is vast on availability and prices from brow bands from £2.00 up to well £40 +.
Yesterday was an amazing day as we visted our local tannery and the choice of leather was amazing. It was so interesting finding out how the leather is produced, something i had never thought about when i used to buy my horse wear for my horses. One thing is for sure when i buy another horse he or she will have a wardrobe to die for I have even thought about donating to a sanctury or special horse course with every item sold as the welfare of the horse is closest to my heart.

Hi and welcome - the pic of your sadly "passed over the Rainbow Bridge" horse is lovely. Was he/she an Arab? Hope you have lots of fun looking at and joining in the Forums. It's a great way of putting off things you should be doing but dont really want to - like work!

We have two or three very good Arabian tack suppliers on here who regularly advertise they have all the information you may require

Hello and WelcomeI can agree with Pasha when she says allot of bridles available are far too chunky for Arab heads, I also have to buy the headpiece in full size and cob size cheek pieces, I found a really lovely brown double bridle on Ebay its really fine leather hardly been used, but the cheek pieces are too long for some of my bits and you cant buy them that thin anywhere.
I did Email a saddlery and they will make them up for me the same thickness but its took me a year to find someone who will, I nearly bought another but it suits him so much with it being much finer, so maybe you could specialise in making made to measure bridles, martingales and headcollars with thinner leather to suit Arab's.
Pasha your not difficult I am sure the opinion of most on here is the same as us. Good luck Ickle Pickle and let us know what route you decide on, I would definitely be interested in some new tack that looks good and fits.

Yes, Pasha they are all the same. My little 14.2 had to have an extra FS browband & pony cheek pieces & the leather is always too wide, unless it's pony size, but then you find a FS headpiece may well be wider than pony cheekpieces.

Well I can only speak for me, but I tend to buy what I need first, but will pick the stuff I like the look of most i.e. Shesky only has one bridle at the moment (poor boy) but it's an Albion KB because I wanted a comfort headpiece, standard cavesson and decent leather that I knew would look good for a long time!

Saying that, if I like something I can usually convince myself they need it lol! Hence why Pasha has 6 bridles lol!

I think what most Arab owners will say is that it's nearly impossible to get a good fit for an Arab from the standard off-the-peg stuff... most well fitting bridles are made-up of different sized cheek pieces, nose bands and browbands and of course, no two Arabs are the same bless them, so you can't even develop an 'Arab' size

So anything you do I think would have to be either made-to-measure or mix and match. For ideas, you can look on websites such as Kate Negus - she does very good quality bridlework and it is all mix and match... the two problems with KN tack for Arabs is 1) Price (it is soo expensive especially when you have to mix & match) and 2) Appearance & Fit - her tack is made really for large Warmblood Types IMO and is just too wide/thick/Chunky for Arabs. She does do a finer range but it only comes in Pony size.

In fact, this is one of the main problems sourcing Bridles for Arabs - you can get the noseband/browband you want... you can even get it to fit (sometimes) BUT then the cheek pieces and reins spoil the look as they are thick and chunky

I've just been looking for a Show Bridle with a Comfort Headpiece - they are like Hens teeth! Luckily I was recommended a very good saddlery who know what Arabs need and they will make me one for a reasonable price. But the compromise is that I just have to take it on blind faith really as I cannot see and example of their work anywhere!

The other problem I have is headcollars and lunge cavessons! I would LOVE a decent leather headcollar that fitted, was soft and fine enough for my boys. I can find this but it would cost more than most bridles and I just think they are a rip-off! Also, I can never find a lunge cavesson to fit! I want an Iberian one (without the metal noseband)... again, I can find this but they are soo expensive I just really couldn't buy without knowing it would fit first, which I doubt! Thinking of getting the Miklem Bridle specifically to use as a lunge cavesson, but again at £80 it's a bit much for what I want it for and it doesn't have the big rings at the side of the noseband that I want.

Ha ha maybe it's just me and not Arabs that are difficult lol!

Hi guys and thank you so much for welcoming me to your forum:)
It may seem strange to some coming on a forum when i sadly know longer have my boy but to me not only is it a link back into the horse world but also may inspire me to get another horse. I have battled with myself about this for quite a while and seing some of the peoples beautiful arabs on here really has made me melt at the nees and want to get back in the saddle. Hope fully very soon and possibly when i learn so much more about the breed and blood lines of my choice then i may get another.
To those that have asked sadly i am unable to show any images which i completly understand and maybe as my skills advance i will look to advertise on here for all to see. But what i would like to ask if possible is gain some insite to what you arab owners want from your tack. For example do you purchase talk beacsue you need to ( yes i know i am stating the obviouse) Or because you want to because you simply like the look of certain equestrion wear. What would you like from a bridal etc. What do you wish you could buy and what really looks the bees nees on the arab. I am really enjoying playing about with leather and at the moment it is a hobby that i hope with time may lead to more, My love for horses really has inspired me and so has my boy. Please understand i do not want to sell any one anything on this forum i am here to learn, learn more about arabs their owners and also what we want from our tack. Who knows i may even be so inspired i will find another soul mate like my Az.
I also will try to help others through my own past experience of owning arabs and bringing them on and with a bit of luck just enjoy sharing info with like minded people :). Obviously me not having a horse to some may seem strange, but i hope even still that i can become a part of your forum and gain knowledge as well as may be some friends :) xx
