Posted - 01 Mar 2010 : 11:21:14 AM Thanks for the info Susie! My girl has just the one patch on her off coronet/heel (it looks like mud fever but actually improves in the winter!), so I'm thinking I might try just an overreach boot on her when the fields dry up...one of those bleedin' obvious solutions that you never think of until someone else mentions it (slaps head!)

Posted - 28 Feb 2010 : 9:33:03 PM the John whittaker bandages have a fleece layer then a stretchy layer and my boy had a pair to wear and a pair to wash and wore them with o/r boots all round.
He was out overnight last summer in his koolkat rug coming in at 9am and going out at 5pm last year and after having AWFUL L.V. when I got him has stayed scab free on this regime all last6 year and I'll be doing the same again this year
he never had over hot legs in the bandages (and the sun boots made him sweat!)
It sounds hard work but really isnt and you get a happy LV free horse

I'd be most interested aswell being as mine suffered last summer with it on one leg!!!
I thought about the boots but he is a little monkey and doesntlike anything on his legs and the first opportunity they would be off and wrecked
Are the John Whittaker bandages just like any other bandage? by that I mean, can they unravel them with their teeth

Posted - 28 Feb 2010 : 11:16:00 AM Rosie can you tell me which boots you used. I would like to get some to try, don't really fancy bandages for turnout.

Posted - 27 Feb 2010 : 9:57:39 PM One of my horses gets Leucocytoclastic vasculitis. There is a good thread on this forum for anyone who wants to know more about it.
Anyway, thanks to advise from other AL users I tried the sun boots last year & it was the first year that my mare had no symptoms. The boots are getting threadbare now but did last her all of last year wearing them vitually 24/7. Not tried the 'John Whittaker bandages?
