My lovely old girl Aquarius is 32 today!!!!! She is by Blue Rainbow out of Marnia and I have owned her since she was 14. In her younger days she was my riding mare and then gave me three foals (all fillies of course!!!). Now in her retirement she spends her days either keeping my neighbours mini shetlands in control or looking after my foals! She loves Ava (even though Ava has eaten her tail off!) and will be sad when Ava leaves to go to Amanda's in March. But Izzie is due to foal sometime in April so then she will have a new baby to look after!!
I won't embarrass her by posting a photo of her now with all her winter woollies - this photo was taken last year.

There is something so special about the older "ladies" - I have my lovely Ormmal who was 21 last week, she still thinks she's the queen of the yard (which of course she is) hope she lives to the same age as Aquarius, did she have a cake Pat

Sue, your mention of catching her reminds me of when I took her down to Annie Hawke's many years ago to attempt to put her in foal to dear old Blacklord Caesaro. We dropped her off and then as I was driving back up the motorway I thought I had better ring Annie to let her know that she can be difficult to catch - too late, she had turned her out in a 30 acre field!!!!!!!!!!!! It took catching every other horse and eventually Aquarius gave in and allowed herself to be caught!!!!
She is still the same but not quite so bad - in the winter months she is happy to be caught to come in for feed but some days she decides that she doesn't want to be caught and you just have to leave her until SHE decides!!! Having said that, she rules the yard now - her stable door is always left open and she comes and goes as she pleases - you have to have some perks with age!!! |

Ahhh......I remember the days of her visiting here, she would not be caught!! we even built a corral system just because of her. Bless her little socks
She looks great Pat, ditto what the others say, you look after her so well, she also knows how important she is too by the look of her in the photo.

I agree with Pat, she is a credit to you and your loving care. when there is a known high mortality in horses , those with loving homes often reach a good age , and its not by accident, their owners cherish and care for them, much praise to you Pat |
