Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 11:52:56 AM Just been trying to get some info from ECAHO and the website is down with this explanation - oh dear:
The ECAHO-site has been hacked. For security reasons we have taken the site offline.
The new site will be built gradually. During this process certain information will not be available.
If you need anything you cannot find, please contact Viola Speier:
viola.speier@ecaho.org
Thank you for your understanding. |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 8:17:09 PM Previously an " add horse site " was targeting advertisers on AL and advertisers on other horse sites, we did contact them, point out the terms of site usage ( which applies to the WHOLE site ) and they seem to have ceased this practice for now.
Its a lazy way of people doing business, take from other sites that have taken years to build.. Shows their small mentality me thinks.

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 7:55:39 PM Hi Alan,
Guess Chris and Sally gave possible sources for how they got your phone number. All it takes is one number out there.
It's obvious these people have been to a lot of arab / horse related websites... |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 7:51:01 PM Hi - I googled Picasso Kossack and your advert on a website came up at the top of the page and your advert has your full contact details! |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 7:48:59 PM Well, it is on your entry on the stud directory on this site - as I believe the others are too. But they are breaking the rules by useing it otherwise.
So if anyone else is called - can you get their info - so AL can take action maybe?? |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 7:27:51 PM Rui,
We do not have any adverts on AL and our phone number is not on our website. So where did they get it? |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 5:39:46 PM We had a call too - I was at work but he knew my husband's name and had quite a chat with him - like they were old mates, Len asked him his name and he said Dick Ritchie he said the deposit had been paid on the box so we assume it must be a cancellation that they were trying to recover the costs. He didn't get a sale from us either |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 5:07:20 PM Lynda, I just googled 'Dreamfield Arabians', got to what I suppose is your website and there is a phone number right on the first page. Also, we don't even have your phone number on your profile, here.
These people will collect phone numbers in all possible manners. Many of you have websites, or have posted ads here and / or elsewhere, and they surely have picked the numbers from one of those sources. I can guarantee member's personal info on here is perfectly safe and hasn't been touched (not that it was needed, but Lynda's number being a perfect example, as we don't even have it on record). |

AL was not hacked. Phone numbers are posted with ads, so anyone who looks at ads will get the phone numbers from there. |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 3:29:28 PM I reckon we should all get together and have a private 'box' I didn't get as far as the costs, if he had said 10k I would have thought he meant £10.00 each!! Do people spend 10k on a private box at Epsom racecourse?? who are they? do they like Arab horses
I used to live near Epsom racecourse, we used to go every year and sit on the 'heath' side where the fairground used to be. It was free!! |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 1:57:33 PM Ah ha...I got the same phone call this morning Sue!
I didn't ask where he got our number from, but assumed because Mitraz was racing last year, he had picked our number up from that. Needless to say, we aren't and won't be going to the Epsom Derby.
Is it me or is there an awful of spam being sent through the ether??? I seem to have won millions and people keep trying to sell me watches. Thank God for 'spam controls' and 'virus catchers'.
As for hacking into the ECAHO site....what for and why??? |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 12:56:48 PM LOL Sue I have also had same chap - I let him give me the sales pitch but had to pull him up on his maths He seemed to think 50% of £10K was £6k
Re the hackers - luckily all my spam catchers etc seem to get rid of them - for the present!! |

Posted - 16 Feb 2010 : 12:27:57 PM I don't really understand what these hackers want? I have just had a phone call from a man trying to sell me cheap tickets for a private box at the Epsom Derby or Ascot. I asked where he got my phone number from and he said Arabian Lines.
All I can assume is it's from an old stallion advert. I guess with money tight people are so keen to get a sale they will look anywhere. As for the hackers, they must be glued to the computer night and day and have little else to do!! What do they get out of it? |
