or not? Its me again!!!
I noticed yesterday that kazzy had a yellowy fluid discharge coming from his nose just on one side. I got him in the stable and he has eaten everything up and started eating his hay, I took his temperature and it was 38c which isnt too bad, he is a bit fed up
not his normal chirpy self even though he did try and take my hood of my coat!!
Is this just a common cold coming? have googled it and was a bit shocked really it could be anything from a common cold to liver failure and he has 6 hours to live type of thing!!!! (I know I shouldnt google illnesses bit I do)
He's never had anything like this before, its just fluid and not er yuk snotty.
Anybody else seen this before?

Who poor Kazbah  . At least you know what it is now Janet and can get it sorted. Sick of seeing my vets at the moment so know how you feel.

I was going to say it could be a tooth, Rafa I am not posting this to scare you, your horse may have something totally different but just to let you know that it can be serious I too am like you and look everything up and scare myself half to death.
My gelding had the same thing on and off for a while, he was scoped and they found nothing in late summer last year then it kept coming back, so he went in the vets to have his face x rayed nothing came up so they scoped again this was in October and his guttural pouch was full of pus he had a really bad infection.
My vet now thinks this was missed in the first scope, this was really nasty and the pus had formed into small pea sized lumps and they had be taken out one at a time, very long process which was carried out over two weeks. The vet also said to me that if this kind of thing is left it can be fatal so I am very lucky they found it when they did. please let us know how your horse is after his antibiotics. |

Well have had the vet out this morning and she thinks it could be sinusitis relating to his teeth!!
He's on antibiotics for a week and if no improvement has to go the vets to be x rayed and possibly flushed out!!
Grrrr if its not one thing its another.

I was thining more of a resportary infection after reading some things and he's a nightmare for taking medicine best of times and he absolutely refuses point blank when he's ill!! If the vet can get something into him before it really kicks in and makes him more ill.
He thinks I am trying to kill him off And to make matters worse you cant disguise medicine in his feed because he wont fall for molasses etc etc
Might phone the vet, again

It does sound like a respiratory infection and i would be inclined to get the vet to see if he needs antibiotics, as better to get them now rather than wait till he is off is food or it goes worse. I am however a paranoid horse mother .
