Posted - 10 Feb 2010 : 12:53:32 PM The only thing I can be sure you won't get is grey! I have always wanted a solid bay filly but with all greys, no chance, or so I thought! My grey mare with a grey stallion (4 grey grandparents) gave me a solid bay filly, to say I was pleased is an understatement.
I haven't bred her yet (she is 6 this year) but am tempted to try with a black stallion.

Posted - 08 Feb 2010 : 9:23:13 PM You can possibly if either parent carrys the black allele, probably unlikely but without colour coat testing you can never be 100% sure. My friend had a black out of a bay mare by a grey stallion, so you never know!! Neither had black in their parentage. |

Caryn PS Can you really get a black from that combination?

Posted - 08 Feb 2010 : 11:46:00 AM You won't get a grey, as you have to have one grey parent (that's about the extent of my colour genetics knowledge! Oh, and a chestnut and a chestnut will always get you a chestnut baby!). It will be a loveloy foal, whatever the colour! x |
