Anyone else struggling to get hay, feed, bedding etc delivered. Our hay supplier lives on a hill so can't get out. Ishara won't actually eat the yard hay anyway but no way I'm attempting to take the lorry down the lanes to get what she likes and am down to last bale. Thankfully we managed to get a haylage delivery yesterday and so far she is eating it. She tends to go off it after a while. I don't give her much hard feed at all and even less at the mo so not bothered about that. Shavings are meant to be delivered next week but probably won't happen so could run out of those! It's a nightmare, all the farm shops are down lanes so not been gritted. I can't get my car out of my road so am reliant on friend picking me up in her 4wd to take me to farm everyday. How is everyone else coping?

luckily the farmer that delivers my hay and straw took the initiative to make a delivery to me before it chucked it down again last week, I thought everything would be fine and we would not have that much more snow - but he was right! My feed merchant is a 5 min walk from the yard so am very lucky on all sides. As from getting to and from the yard, it has been hairy at times along the lanes but my little red car (golf-a real one!) has been absolutely amazing in the snow. I have never seen Estara so white as not being able to get near any mud now for 3 weeks!

I'm waiting for the prices to rocket because of this weather!!

Normally does, people see people struggling and shoot the prices up

Lucikly I live 2 mins away from my supplier so I havent got a problem.

I'm making use of the sled to drag one bag of grub at a time across the fields to my stables. Hard work!

We are expecting a haylage delivery tomorrow as we're down to our last bale. But it is currently snowing here and more is forecast for tomorrow possibly so don't know whether the farmer will be able to get to us as the field is a very hilly area and not easy to get to in this weather. I have been leaving my car at the top of the hill by the main road and walking the mile to the yard and back.

So my friend who has a 4x4 may have to go and collect some haylage from the feed shop which is about 8 miles away if the farmer can't get to us. They only have a small 4x4 though so will probably only get about 4 bales in it which won't even last a week for the two horses!

I wish this snow and ice would just go away now!!

I can't get my car near my horses, so I'm having to walk about a mile and a half. I got a haylage delievery yesterday, he has a big tractor. It's very hard as my little girl cut her leg to the bone 2 weeks ago, so trying to nurse her as well is hard. It was quite a treat to get a lift from the vet on Thursday. We've been like this since before christmas, with no grit at all. Luckily all my water is streams, which haven't frozen over.

Well, our yard normally copes with the hay and straw they make themselves in the summers but with the harsh weather the hay is going fast and we're soon down to the last bales (probably in the region of 40 horses on the whole yard). There are no large round bales left (only the YO's own supply), there are some large squares ones there but we can't get to them as they're underneath the bowed and shut section of the barn. So we're having to use the poor-quality small bales as they're the only ones we can access. And they are running out fast.

Will have to ring around next week to see if I can get some haylage delivered for our field (three horses) as we have no storage facilities it must be wrapped up against the weather so we can keep it outdoors...

Local shop runs out of milk and bread really early every morning so difficult to feed ourselves too. Baked a loaf of my own bread yesterday, very yummy!

Hope you all get your deliveries.
Our stables are at the bottom of a steep hill so we have to be organised.
We make our own hay so keep plenty for ourselves, & buy straw in off the field at harvest time & try & plan enough to last us the winter.

Grocery home shopping has been cancelled twice so had to venture to the shops.
good luck everyone.

Reading all these postings about the problems so many of you are having with this weather makes me realise just how lucky I am here on the beautiful Isle of Bute!

We do not have much, if any snow, although the ground is "as hard as iron" (to use a well-known Christmas hymn!!). Pack ice was my biggest problem. I couldn't get them safely to and from the stable to field without a taking a risk. So, they are happily out in the big fields where I am so fortunate to have a spring in the field which means they have a good supply of running water at all times. Both of them must be getting a good pick of grass as they are not that bothered at feeding time and have left plenty of hay.

They ususally abide in a wee paddock, so I feel very lucky that the farmer is not fussed about them being on the good ground. I guess there is no way they could poach the ground at the moment!!!

Hope you all continue to cope with the elements and keep safe and sound!!

Urgh... hate this weather! We used our month's supply of hay in a week.... lucky for us our farmer will bring big bale round within 24 hours.
Roll on spring, my favourite time of year....

Not doing too well our end either. As I said on another thread I am having to deep litter as snow too deep to take to the dung heap and too a couple of days worth now sitting outside of the stables. I'm knee deep outside my house and round the stables although farmer cleared my lane and snow near the barn but still cant get my car out. Just about flood my kitchen carrying water to the horses. I believe this weather is due to last for some time then when the thaw comes it will be flooding!

I am currently walking to the yard, cant get car out as no gritters have been to our village. Luckily hay and straw is farmed on site so we have plenty of that but having to borrow a friends 4x4 to go get feed tomorrow..mind you thats if the shops open, depends if staff can get in and whether we get the 10cm of snow predicated overnight tonight! I just want to wake up and its all disapeared!

It's a nightmare isn't it Joanna?

I was down to my last half bale today and no straw for days so have been deep littering (yuk but at least it's warmer). I was so relieved when my hay and straw was delivered this morning as we are expecting snow all night and bet they wouldn't be able to get to us after today.

It's such a worry isn't it as I've got a normal car and so couldn't go off looking for some myself if it had come to that.

I had a massive supermarket shop delivered last night too as my delivery was cancelled on Wed and was so worried that they wouldn't get to us for heavens knows how long !

Grr to the
