My beautiful mare died in my arms this afternoon. She was found in the field with a severely broken hind leg. We do not know if she was kicked or caught her foot in a hole, or what happened, but it was clear that nothing could be done. She was put to sleep and slipped away with her head in my arms in the snow.
I feel so terrible that she was entrusted to my care only a few months ago and this has happened. Although I had not known her long I loved her with all my heart, which is now breaking. I waited 25 years to find her, and the joy she brought into my life with her sweetness, her cheekiness and her unrelenting beauty will stay with me forever. I love you baby and am so very very sorry. |

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your mare like this. My mother and I witnessed our 14 month old Arab gelding breaking his hind leg in a fall in the field, and I know how utterly heart-breaking it is to lose them this way. I read the poem you posted, changed the she to he, etc, and have soaked my keyboard in tears. *hugs* to you, Susie. |

I am so very sorry for your loss. Don't torture yourself by thinking you could have prevented this terrible accident. You obviously loved her dearly. I hope in time your memories of her will bring a smile to your face. She is running free with the Angels for company. xxxx |

So sorry to read this sad news. You will feel better in time and remember how wonderful she was. I lost my beautiful stallion Crystal Raj in Oct 2002 , found in the field with a broken leg for no apparent reason. I was devastated for a very long time but now I look back and think how lucky I was to have had this wonderful boy and I remember with a smile all the pleasure he gave us. Also a tear too...... |

God I can't believe this news. I am so sad to hear of her passing.
I nearly had this mare on loan myself with a view to buy her and have regretted every day since I made the decision not to have her. It was just the wrong time for me. What a mistake!
I really am sorry to hear of your loss of one of the most genuine mares I have ever met.

Thank you so much for your words of comfort and kindness. It is a great help to know there are people who genuinely understand my feelings of loss and devastation. Theo - it was lovely to get your message and to know Tera's beauty and spirit will still live on, hopefully in many generations to come. Although at the moment I feel like stealing her baby away in the hope of just seeing a glimmer of my beautiful girl in her eyes. Mogwai - thank you for pointing the poem out to me, it felt as if it was written especially for me and Tera. I have copied it below in case some people haven't seen it. I hope that is OK.
