The late Mr sidney G. Hough who was a past president of the A.H.S. in the twenties and again in the 50's and 60's. It was this man who introduced me to my first pure Arabian who I think I remember as K of K? when I was a young girl. I hope to write an article on him and am not having much luck with my research! I'm hoping some other 'senior' A.L's will be able to help me out. Thank You.
I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this was o.k!

I too met Cecil Hough through Pat Banks. He was in his nineties when I met him and I saw K of K back in 1976. Pat Banks founded what is now known as the HoCon Arab Horse Group and he used K of K almost exclusively on his mares. Pat Banks too was very fussy about what lines he bred from believing some of the Crabbet bloodines were not pure.

Thank you so much to all the above for sharing your memories with me. I shall pursue all avenues suggested! The A.L'S really do have a wealth of knowledge! I have contacted the A.H.S. and am waiting to hear if they can help. Clutha, K of K was a big sire of PBA'S. He was a very popular boy at stud with the locals, especially those with welsh pony's, although sadly I think many were not registered. My father brought two outstanding part bred mares from him, who both went on to become excellent all rounders. As I said K of K was the first pure bred I saw "in the flesh" and I remember Mr Hough as being very kind and eager to pass on his knowledge and passion for the breed. The one downside is that, I contracted the dreaded Arabitas disease from which, so very many years latter, I still suffer from..........Oh well! Thank you all again.

My old mare who passed on aged 29 was out of Kings Koga who was by K of K, there is a lovely photo of him on allbreedpedigree, she looked so like him. I'd also love to know more about him as I thought so much of her. It would have been an unusual match to produce Kings Koga, as the dam, Altnaharra was a registered Highland. Reckon not many Highlands were covered by K of K, hardly an obvious cross, but it worked well as Kazella, my girl, was lovely. She was a registred PBA being 1/4 Highland, a dash of TB & the rest arab (including Blue Domino - worked well for her!). Superb horse.

I was talking to one of our local farriers last year and he told me that he did his apprenticeship working at his place. He had a few stories about how well Mr Hough treated his staff. I don't have his phone number as he moved house a few years back.. but you could try tracking him down on the internet or somebody who posts may know his number. His name is John Cantle and he likes Arabs

Penny Gilbey was a close contact of his and bred the Kesia line from those bloodlines .
She lives in Essex and Saudi but I have lost contact

This is really from the past.

We bought our first pure bred filly from a Mr Banks of Epping and he used K of K extensively. The filly Safella was by K of K and out of a Mare called Safire. One of Safella's daughters is still alive, she is by Marania Gold and is called Tsoukira.

When we went to see Safella we went down to Mr Hough's home and saw K of K. He was a very impresive typical OE stallion, very dark bay. He was owned by Cecil Hough who I understand was the son of Sydney.

I understand that a few years ago someone in the east of England was trying to keep these old lines going.

One thing that was interesting about K of K was that he was completely clear of Rissalix blood as Mr Hough did not like it. Infortunately we messed this up when we bred from Safella as our colt was out of a Blue Domino mare.

You may find some of the old AHS journals have something on what you are looking for. You may also be able to track down info if you check the newspapers for that area. It is likely that any obits could provide more info. The AHS would have a record of his address near Epping.

Good luck anyway.
