Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 3:11:03 PM Just got my certs in the post from the BEF this year.
I was thrilled to see that Lady Arabella has been given a premium from them.
They have given premiums to the dams of foals who gained a first premium with a high score.
I think that that is a brill idea to give the mares some recognition for what they have achieved in producing these foals as they are often missed!
Well done the BEF.

Posted - 16 Dec 2009 : 4:26:10 PM Denmoor...my reason for stating same......a Brood Mare who produces "proof of the pudding" deserves to be recognised (particularly if she has only been used as a breeding mare and therefore has not had her chance....for whatever reason, to individually prove her own performance ability) Surely to achieve BEF premium status with "Performance" experienced Judges assessing and awarding the grading, is indeed a high honour for a Mare
NASTA Testing is to be recommended but is NOT the "bee all and end all" and a GUARANTEE that the end product (foal) will be a great achiever....The only guarantee, is to BUY a proven performance horse. A horse capable of brilliant performance...also needs a brilliant rider, which in the majority of cases, for financial reasons is usually out of reach for most small dedicated Breeders, if one has to send their horse to professional ridden competition producers
The Arab Horse Society recognise that fact and within the rules of Premium Qualification, Stallions and Mares twelve years and over, can gain Premium Status, through their Progeny performances, which to me IS the ONLY real proof of their breeding worthiness.
One only has to study the current AHS Premium Scheme stallions and the popularity of those stallions. Since the Premium Scheme was introduced by the AHS, during the last 20 plus years One Anglo Arab stallion stands out from all others, Nicky Nash`s Fairlyn Gemini NASTA tested Elite status. The next two most used Anglo Premium Stallions (Neither, NASTA Tested) are Somerset Morn and our own Sunray Scelebrity.....sadly, all three now deceased, with Gemini still available via frozen semen. These three stallions have proved their worth in the scheme. Whilst there are a number of other Premium Anglo/PBA NASTA Tested stallions....there seems little uptake by Brood Mare owners.
Cant wait for, and only hope I am still around if Lady Arabella has a Gemini colt 2010, who may be at stud in the future. A full Pedigree Anglo and Full Pedigree Stud Book Regd. Trakhener...and, British Bred!!!...what I have been waiting for and will certainly be wanting to cover our big Scelebrity mare with him.
We are intending to take her for BEF grading when she foals next year important to us, as she was bred for and has been retained as breeding stock. Her first two offspring have the size, conformation, temperament and performance breeding to excel in any sphere. Getting BEF 1st premium status will be the icing on the cake and proof we are still on the right track.

I do apologise...the above is based on Anglo and Part Bred Premium Scheme Mares and Stallions. I am sure there are also Pure Breds that have amazing performance progeny flying the flag for the Premium Scheme.

Posted - 16 Dec 2009 : 3:13:39 PM I am wondering on what grounds you think a Mare should be awarded Elite status, is it on the production of graded prodgeny. At present Elite Status may be attained by Mares who complete the performance test, this has been achieved by Trakehner Mares but not Arab, Anglo or Partbred as yet. I would like to point out that the High Points Championship has been been awarded for 2years the reciepients both Trakehners with AA bloodlines, the AHS have two Performance tested Premium Stallions both of whom carry AA and Trakehner bloodlines so I would say that the AHS are looking to the future and giving those that want to breed for performance a deal of encouragement. The Performance Event/Show will be taking place on 12 th June 2010 together with a Stallion Parade. |

Posted - 16 Dec 2009 : 11:51:36 AM Well Done Lady Arabella......hopefully a true sporthorse Pedigree Anglo Arabian who is also a fully registered Trakehner, Stallion at Stud in the future ....keeping fingers crossed, you have a colt as you wish for, Nicky
However, it would be equally rewarding for the breed, if Arabella has a filly, knowing myself from personal experience, how important the Mare is to any breeding programme.
The AHS should consider awarding Lady Arabella Elite Brood Mare Premium Status on the basis of her 2009 filly (by AHS Elite Premium Stallion, Nicky`s own homebred Romarnic Ranger) being awarded a 1st Premium by the British Equestrian Federation who have also recognised Lady Arabella and awarded her BEF Brood Mare Premium status
Perhaps same would give an incentive for Mare Owners to put forward their Mares for Premium Status.....more top class Premium Mares.... covered by Premium Stallions better chance of top class performance Pure/Anglo/Part Bred Arabian stock flying the flag in affiliated performance disciplines......it is starting to happen...lets keep the ball rolling!!!

Posted - 16 Dec 2009 : 10:08:35 AM Wonderful achievement Nicky, Well done.
Sue, I remember when the the mares with premiums could be sent to a stallion of choice. As the mare contributes more to a mating than the stallion I wonder (if the premium stallions can cover any mare) why this is not so for mares now? Does anyone know the reason for the change?

Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 3:44:00 PM What wonderful news for Lady Arabella. The AHS used only to give the premiums to the mares, and you could send to the stallion of your choice. |
