Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 7:17:32 PM As i was coming down the M3 this morning on my way home from a hen party, my side of the motorway slowed to a crawl and i could see in the distance on the other side of the motorway an overturned car. As I got nearer I saw there was also a trailer now facing the wrong way down the carriage way and as i crawled nearer still i noticed it was the event riders from our yard. I called 999 but was told many other calls had already come in and help was on its way, I couldnt get to them as i was on the other side of the motorway...i have never felt so sick in all my life. As I got right up next to the scene, i was releived to see that all 3 passengers in the overturned 4x4 were on the hard shoulder and all ok. Now it was a case of rescuing the horses. By the time i got back to the yard we'd heard the trailer had a tyre blow out, the trailer then snaked and snaked and spun then broke off from the car and at that point the car flipped. The yard owner had set off in a borrowed horse box to transfer the horses from the trailer and amazingly when the fire brigade got the horses out the trailer, they didnt have a single scratch on them and loaded straight up into the box. Both horses are being watched for signs of shock, they are both stiff as boards and being monitored by the vets but how anybody or either horse walked away from todays accident I'll never... |

Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 7:53:23 PM That is horrific and many years ago we had the same experience, my sons pony was in the trailer with another and his friends mum was driving an american jeep that was forced into the ditch and turned over and the trailer ended up in the wrong lane facing the wrong way on its side, it was horrific to watch it and it seemed to happen in slow motion, but both ponies came out fine just a bit shaken, I was in bits this was on the epping road which is busy |
