I am so devastated to tell you all that Sam has just been pts at Leahurst. I received the dreaded call just before 8am this morning. He had been colicking badly through the night and the vet was ringing to tell me that unless they operated again, which she didn't recommend, then we had to make the decision to let him go.
He isn't suffering anymore and i know we did the best we could for him. He has been the mainstay of our yard for over 15 years, head of the herd, the one to ride if you just needed a break or wanted to rely on him to be good.
The last show he went to was a complete suprise to us as mum had only found out it was on an hour or so before, he hadn't been shown for nearly 4 years due to me having the children, he stood Ridden Champion and made us all so so proud. His manners as always were impeccable. We can remember him through such wonderful times and this is what mum and i have to hold onto. Mum was there when he was born, we never expected him to leave us like this.
Here is a picture of him with his mum Sadie - Sadie was a part bred welsh/part bred arab and was the most fantastic mare in the world. She was a very hard act to follow but Sam chose a different path and was wonderful in his very own way.
He towers over her! This was taken one wet summers morning very early by my mum. Its how we want to remember them, happy together. I know she will be looking after him now, bossing him around happy to be with her boy again.

So sorry to hear that things have not worked out as we all hoped and prayed they would. Deep sympathies are with you all; it must be such a terrible loss and disappointment. It's hard to know what to say to make you feel better. Hugs to you all. |

Its only one day on and we are all going through our normal routines. I have just got back from the farm wet and cold where i did the other horses with a sad heart. His loss has left me numb i never thought my boy would leave me for years to come. I missed his head over the door and his stable was all in darkness. As soon as i got in i logged in here to read all the messages of condolence and you wouldn't believe how much they have helped me. Every kind word is like a hug from you guys most of you I've never met. One day I'd like to meet you all and thankyou all in person. |

So very sorry to read that your lovely Sam didn't pull through. It's absolutely heartbreaking when these things happen as many of us know having experienced similar. You have many happy memories which is good.

I am so sorry to hear for your loss but you must remember that you have done everything for him and that when it came to make the decision we all dread you did it at the right time! I was so hoping for a happy ending for you as this year has been a rough year for so many it would have been nice to get some good news. Big hugs to you all  |
