So......what about the Anglo and Part Bred Arabs???? The writer gave a lengthy account of the successes of Pure Arab Premium Stallion`s progeny, and found space to record details of her own stallions get.....but not even a single line about the Anglo and Part Bred Premium Stallions!!!!! Romarnic Stud`s Romarnic Ranger by Fairlyn Gemini also Sunray`s Premium Stallion Sunray Scelebrity to name two Premium Anglo stallions, who have made a huge contribution to the Premium Scheme over the last two decades, with stock still out there flying the flag for the AHS Premium Scheme

What a pity the writer could not find space in her review.....to make mention of other than Pure Arab Premium Stallions!! seems we are not worthy of mention...but she does offer apologies and YES....you should have MADE space to include Anglo & Part Bred Premium Stallions
which would have been more acceptable than an apology!!!!

Really do not know why Anglo and Part Bred Breeders/Owners, bother
to pay our Membership fees

Sorry Allistair....much too long in the tooth now...what we need is the young blood, who is as dedicated as I to further the interests of Anglo Arab and Part Bred Arab Breeders/Owners/Members

Can only support from the comfort of my office chair and computer, of late!! Hopefully there is just that person out there?? One who is willing to take on the task of AHS Council Member and possesses the dedicated endeavour and motivation to support the aims of the minority Anglo/Part Bred Members and the Performance Premium Scheme, which have somehow been consigned to the `back burners` for some considerable years now.

Not at all hollow Babsr
if you recall I have said many times that the Soc exists for "the promotion of light horse breeding" and should fulfil its' remit.
It would have been good imo if You had been on council for the last 20 years to add your points where it counts.
It is not too late ,there are elections coming up soon .

On several occasions over the years, I have tried to stress the importance of Brood Mares to the Premium Scheme and suggested a list of same, be included in what used to be a two page AHS Promotional information article, for Premium Stallions, including photographs etc
which appeared in Horse & Hound etc.,

Unfortunately that was dropped which was a great pity...for the future, maybe, who knows Premium Scheme Promotional literature may be resurrected

I would like to see at least a list if there is'nt enough space for a report on the Mares who have been awarded Premium Status each year in the AHS year book, we would then be able to follow these mares and look out for their prodgeny.

Just caught up with this thread.

Very well said Babs. Obviously I'm not as tactful as you but the sentiment is the same and patronising tones from those who don't understand the importance of the AA/PB situation or have to suffer the same treatment as the Anglo and Part-breds, only help to aggravate the situation.
I didn't even have the courtesy of an acknowlegement of receipt of the report I was asked to do, not that it mattered that much but would have been nice.

I would like to add that I thought the Pure-bred content in the magazine was much improved, more interesting and I enjoyed it very much.

On the contrary Allistair.....am a very calm laid back person, quite chilled out in fact, if you knew me personally.

However, when it comes to supporting/protecting what I believe in, there is a lot of fire in my belly.....and I can get up on my soapbox and speak my mind, which somehow seems to get dubbed as moaning by many....so be it!! Just like to see fairness and honesty in life
what you see is what you get with me......and will continue to speak out and fight for my beloved Anglo Arabs.

Calm done dear -its only a forum!
gosh you are a crosspatch sometimes.
I meant AS WELL AS the Arab publications .
It is a fact that editors are desperate sometimes fro local interest items and to have a prestigious stud in the local area would be of great interest to local and regional readers
Try it and maybe you will feel that the toil has been worth it .
BabsR Posted - 17 Dec 2009 : 10:43:03 AM
What a hollow response Leslie....certainly have to agree that the Arab Mag is fine tuned to the Pure Arabian.....and possibly most would prefer it wholly that way

However.....the AHS hold an Anglo Arab Stud Book and a Part Bred Arab Register and those Breeders/Owners etc., (particularly Anglos, who pay equally the same fees and compulsary Membership fees) to be able to register their horses, are ALL entitled to equal consideration, be it at Shows, in AHS publications or whatever, the same entitlement Pure Bred Members receive, the AHS should extend to ALL MEMBERS

Therefore, really not very supportive, to suggest a Part Bred Arab Owner/Member go elsewhere. The AHS has in the past been unfair when allocating Magazine space for the non pure Arab Members news and views

It is indeed very refreshing that the current yearbook has included several pages of Anglo and Part Breed Arab Members articles. Hopefully faith may be restored and we look forward to an ever increasing input from Anglo and Part Bred Arab Members

Have you considered sennding the articles to other equine and non equine publications _say, the local press for local interest/
The space in Arab mags is very limited and when the audience is fine tuned to pure-breds then even more limited .
Fact .
So why not try other ways to promote your breeding .
potential clients may be just in the next village and not know anything about you .
Give it a try!

If I may be permitted to make a comment from the very bottom of the food chain, I have in years gone by submitted articles on Anglo and Part-breds to the AHS only to have them go unacknowledged, as indeed was the case with most of the letters I wrote to the AHS during my 20+ years of membership, and eventually I came to the sad conclusion that the Society had nothing to offer me. On the other hand, Arabian Link, TAM and the Crabbet magazine have all been kind enough to welcome and publish my self-indulgent blatherings. This may be a moan but it is also a statement of fact - as Babs says, when one has laboured long and hard to produce an article one likes to feel that it was not in vain.

My mares both achieved Premium status on the basis of their showing performance and while I was never in a position where I was able to breed from them I nevertheless feel that the Premium scheme has an important place which should be preserved.
BabsR Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 6:56:34 PM
Have to agree with Denmoor...it IS worthwhile putting Mares forward for Premium Status. And lets NOT forget about the importance of the Mare in the breeding equation. Nicky Nash`s Anglo Arab Mare, Lady Arabella is one of only two Anglo mares in this Country ever to have been approved and entered in the Head Stud Book for.... Trakheners

Lady Arabella has very recently been awarded a Premium by the BEF (British Eventing Federation)being the Dam of BEF 1st Premium foal who has gained a high points score. Foal(by NASTA Elite tested Romarnic Ranger

Sunray Stud are delighted to have played their part in this wonderful success story. Lady Arabella`s Dam is sired by our Premium Anglo Stallion Sunray Scelebrity and her Dam is Sunray Sapphire (out of BNC & Premium Mare,Sunray Seranata) Proof indeed that Mares are very important in the breeding game.

Therefore feel that any further Premium Scheme Review must make space for the forgotten ones....our Premium Brood Mares, Pure, Anglos and Part Bred Arab

Well, i got mine today, and i LOVE it! Seems like a very well balanced issue to me. Loads of interesting articles, lovely glamour shots and great action of our wonderful, beautiful, intelligent breed.
Great stuff. Thanks

I thought the yearbook was really good, best one i've had in ages. Well done to all concerned. x
jaj Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 6:19:06 PM

I loved it, really good edition. Much as I also enjoy   it is our society publication that I keep coming back to as it is all much more relevant to me than an international magazine.

Thank you for all those that put so much time and effort into producing it !

DenmoorStud Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 6:05:37 PM
Sundance, By using a Premium Scheme Stallion approved and performance tested as required by the AHS on a Premium Mare the result should be a horse capable of a high level of performance. The performance test used by the Society is on a parr with those used in Europe, the AHS is leading the way forward to promote the Arabian Sport Horse, which I would like to add includes the Anglo and Partbred.
The options are available for Mare owners to breed superb horses capable of any dicipline.
If you own a Stallion why not consider putting him forward for testing next year 2010
Thank you for my year book, I know how much time and effort has gone into producing it.

A lovely magazine Ladies! and a results section-quite like old times
Well done, or as Len Goodman would say "NINE!"

BabsR - thank you for your comments and you know, as you and I have spoken, we will try to keep articles as much as possible in their entirity, but occasionally space etc does come into play and we do have to chop some bits out. We usually do always send articles back to contributors for their agreement once we have sorted the text.
However I am delighted you are putting pen to paper again and will contact you in due course - many thanks.
SueN Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 2:42:38 PM
Let us remember where you are able to vent your fury and complaints. Here on Arabian Lines. A.L. has always bent over backwards to accommodate any sections putting up show results, and any news that anyone cares to send in.

There is here, a dedicated section for Anglo and Part breds for anyone who would like to contribute. It is always difficult to get people to put pen to paper, only to find that the article has been edited without consultation.

Every other society has one annual magazine, I have never understood why we need to have so many!
Sahir Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 1:27:55 PM
I thought it was an excellent magazine - Well done Sally and the team

It is a shame when the same old moaners keep on moaning, it really defeats the object I believe, as in the end people think "Oh God here they go again" and just
move on to another thread. It would be nice to see something positive for a change from these small group of "contributors" instead of the constant criticism

BabsR Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 1:09:54 PM
Nothing to do with being sensitive SueB....but after one has bothered to sit down and write an article, which clearly the editorial say they are lacking for Anglo/Pba insert.....then reading the content, with important pics or info (to the writer) edited out, then after several experiences thus... I for one then could not be bothered to make a further offering.

How pleased was I that the obituary for Scelebrity was printed in its entirety and can hope this will continue under the new Editor

I had a very long run in with the Premium Scheme some time back....who were saying more or less....get off your backside and do something about it...we want your ideas etc etc I did.....I convened a meeting with several Anglo/PBA Premium Scheme Owners at that time.
We met....discussed matters for several hours and minutes were taken
I prepared a dossier and also documented an analysis of all AA/PBA
stallions at that time. Many hours of work went into producing the final file, which included sending copies to the Head of the Premium Scheme Committee by post, recipient to sign for.

No response....several weeks later, was told that same had not been received....then saying days later had found same (one of the girls must have signed for it and did not tell her) Copies were also sent to other Premium Scheme Committee Members. I was promised the File would be presented and discussed at the Premium Scheme Meeting, due shortly after. Day of meeting....spoke to Office and it was confirmed my document had NOT been taken into or discussed at that meeting!!!! A lot of work for NOTHING, several stallion owners had completely wasted their time and petrol money travelling.

Sorry, going off topic...but perhaps one can understand, why Anglo Members are so fed up with such negativity towards their minority Members

SueB Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 11:57:38 AM
I don't think you should single out Anglo's or Part Breds as having an article condensed/edited. It happens all the time to Purebred articles, not only in the News but also many other Magazines.

I used to get frustrated but realise it is just a question of fitting in everything, nothing suspicious or aimed at any one writer.

Don't be so sensitive Babs. We have all had it happen, just move on. Maybe re submit and keep pushing.

I am so glad Sally has a wealth of support, long may it continue.

BabsR Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 11:43:02 AM
Anglo/PBA Breeders are not disputing the Hard work that the Editor puts in to produce the Yearbook and for the Pure Arabian Breeders, with page after page of Arabian horses.....yes you have right to be proud of the magazine.

Over the years we have submitted various articles and photos etc, only to have been disappointed that same where edited and photos not printed....usually stating "due to lack of space" when we questioned why. This has happened on more than one occasion....so we ourselves thought why bother!! as I am sure other Anglo/PBA Breeder/Owner/Members have done.

This year we were contacted and responded with a obituary for our Premium Anglo Stallion....and have to say were very pleased when we read same in it`s entirety.....without any editing and missing info. Thankyou, we really appreciate.

Yes, Anglo Breeders in Particular have had good reason to moan at Councils lack of interest.....one wonders if faced with an issue threatening the Pure Arab Stud Book, as the AA11`s (Part Bred Arabs)issue which jeopardized the integrity of our Pure Anglo Stud Book.....and is still unresolved after almost two decades.....just wondered how many Pure Arab Breeders....would sit quiet and not shout out loud and long, about such injustice!!! forced upon us from the AHS Council Members.....believe me, we have every right to be extremely disillusioned

Sorry about that rant.....getting back to the Yearbook...best one yet!!

Babs

www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk

P.S. Azeer......already working on an article for 2010 Yearbook to sing the praises of the forgotten side of the breeding equation....the Premium Brood Mares and their progeny....its not all about stallions, this breeding lark
azeer Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 11:01:28 AM
Thank you Nicky - when asked to contribute you did an amazing job and it was lovely to be able to include you articles. We look forward to more for next issue - hopefully we will be able to put an update on Amy's success (fingers crossed) at the regional championships.
nn Posted - 13 Dec 2009 : 10:33:24 AM
Sally

I thought that you did a good job of trying to get a balance.

It is sad that the AA/PBA premium stallions didn't get a mention, but i for one will be ringing Diana to suggest that a quick letter to us all before the due date, and we can send in any interesting news.

It is annoying when you ask people to write something and they don't!
You cant be held responsible for that.

The premium scheme i think needs all the help it can get at the moment and i know that Ann Brown is trying very hard to improve things.

Lets us AA/PBA owners and breeders get our pens to paper and write so much stuff that poor Sally has a nightmare choosing what to publish ,instead of her watching tumble weed going past waiting for it!

I am already thinking of something interesting i can send.

Nicky
