My rubbish, rusty, pump up tyres wheelbarrow is coming to the end of it's life (as is my back!) so i new one is right at the top of my christmas list (and yes, i am sad and i am excited about a new wheelbarrow and the prospect of easier, less painful poo picking!).
So, which one do i get? I have just seen a motorised one!!! Cool! for £599, not so cool and way out of my price range!
Any ideas?

I bought the orange plastic B&Q one in 2002 and it is in constant daily use and is still going strong. It does have a small crack around where the frame and barrow meet now, but I am waiting for it to fall apart completely (and have been waiting for several years!) It lives outside too. Great barrow and will be replaced by a newer version of the same when it finally dies. |

Arabic we have the Aldi one, only downside is it's noisy but has lasted very well. Also have a battery operated three wheel 'Luv' truck, does forward at two speeds and reverse, holds masses (6 hay nets, twice as much muck as a barrow), but its faster speed isn't really fast enough when you are in a rush. Have two other barrows that we compete not to use, One is tall sides and has its handle 'feet' too close together so your feet hit them when walking and it tips over easily. Other one is very wide and shallow, good for nets but not good for straw muck on a windy day. All things to consider when choosing a new one. Would never go for a metal topped one though as weight is major consideration. |

I have bought a purple plastic one!  it was fairly cheap but has proved to be excellent!!! does not matter what i put in it, it does the job! it is aptly named belle barrow |

Thanks guys. Good to know i'm not the only one who is obsessed with wheelbarrows!
The aldi one sounds FAB! I'll have a look, and the b&q one too.

I have an orange B&Q one just like Leighann, plastic with metal handles that go right under the body. Cheap but now on its 5th winter and doing 3 stables a day. Never been sick or sorry in any way except a puncture mended by hubby with his bicycle repair kit!  |

I bought mine years ago from Aldi's. A garden barrow, green with 2 yellow plastic wheels. I thought it would last 5 mins but must be on its 6th winter at least. It was the butt of many jokes with its hooks either side for tools but my goodness it was great. Really deep so only one trip to the muckheap each time and in the evenings I could load it with a bucket of feed, hay and rug and trundle down to his field without losing anything. Downside was that everyone could hear me coming and I needed v broad shoulders to bear the jokes! When I lost Freddie I gave it to my friend who couldnt wait to have it. So if you see one of those, I would definately recommend it. Looks a bit like a road sweepers truck and I always thought the wheels would fall off but it certainly earned its keep!! |

The ones i have from B&Q have metal handles which go right under the barrow to the wheels so pretty robust |

I was very excited to be given a huge "Yankee" screwdriver for a birthday present by my brother one year! And I like tools (any kind of gadgets really) as long as they're in their own compartmentalised carrying case with a place for everything - heaven!
LOL about the wheelbarrow in the lounge 'cos you're not allowed to use it until Xmas day!

I was eyeing up a pink one the other day too but I would poss go and have a look in B&Q first now!
In saying that the one that pulls its self along for £599 would be at the top of my list!!

I once had a hell of a time convincing my (ex) mother-in-law to buy me a decent muck-fork for Xmas...non-horsey folk don't realise we DO get all happy and excited about things for the yard, LOL!
We bought some semi-brilliant all plastic ones from B&Q years ago - semi-brilliant because they were huge and light, BUT the handles snapped off when they fell over on cold days AND the plastic wheel was hollow and split after a while. We still hve one, and if I could find someone to perform surgery and graft a proper wheel on it it, that would make it TOTALLY brilliant!

Well guess what im getting for christmas as well, in fact my other half has already bought it in the sale at Farmway. It is pink with 1 wheel and is at present sitting in my living room as i am not allowed to use it till christmas day ( rather cruel i think as my other one is very poorly ). I can just picture us all on christmas day morning playing with our new wheelbarrows, quite sad really, i am easy pleased.Good luck in your search for your new barrow i think i would be tempted to look at the B&Q one sounds very good value. |

Cheap and cheerful Orange Plastic ones from B&Q they are a good size and very lightweight exactly the same as the pink ones but half the price at £38!! We bought 2 a few months back and they are holding up well under the pressure of 11 stables to muck out daily

LOL Ros I think it's terribly exciting having a wheelbarrow for Christmas. I have one of those large plastic blue ones, that have two wheels at the front. They cost around £100 which is quite expensive. I love mine because it means one trip to the muck heap (per one or two stables) compared to about ten trips! Really is a time saver. Most people at the livery yard have them.
You can wheel them one-handed too - great for waving to people |

Definitely a big deep plastic one rather than a metal one - so much lighter. (I once made the hideous mistake of buying a metal builders barrow because it was cheap - never again!) Also bear in mind your height - my Mother is 5' 2" and I am 5' 7" and we have 2 different plastic barrows of slightly differing heights and it definitely makes a difference to your back if you use one that suits your height. Our newest one is pink, which is rather girlie, but it was on the grounds that it was less likely to be pinched, since it was replacing a much more soberly coloured one that was pinched.
Richard Dyson designed a barrow with a ball rather than a wheel which were so much easier to push through mud, but you don't seem to be able to get them any more |
