Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 6:54:54 PM Well thats us 8 weeks down the road from wizzies initial injury.
we went back to the dick vet on Monday for an apointment Tuesday.
He had a scan of his suspensory ligament on the Monday and the news is not brilliant there is some damage
Had a series of x rays on tuesday and the fracture is healing all be it slowly there has been some absorbtion of bone, so that is good the really bad bit at the top of the splint where is meets the hock is stable but the bit underneath that seems to still be floating The shard of bone that was the bottom of the splint bone is a funny colour they are hoping that this is just cause of the damage and that it isnt dying off.......we wont know if that is going to happen till it happens i.e he goes very lame or we get puss
So back home not very much further on and a lot poorer
They want him back in 8 weeks but have had a chat with grandma and my vet and we have come to the end of the road money wise, and if they have to operate to remove any bone we dont have the £4000.00 it is going to cost.
He has another 4 weeks box rest in front of him at least and my vet is going to take over total care from now on.....if we have to remove any bone we are going give him a chance and do it up here, at least it will save me the diesel money and the stabling charges.
I am a wee bit down as was hoping for fab news but have to look on the positive side 1. He is still with us 2. They dont want to operate at the moment 3. The wound is healing really well |

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 10:20:41 PM Oh Emma,
Been thinking of you and how things were going with the wonderful Wiz...
I am so sorry that you didn't get the totally positive news that you and all of us on here were praying for.
It's good that you are keeping your chin up. He is an amazing horse and he is going in the right direction, allbeit slowly.
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
