Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 12:34:03 PM Im having problems with my livery When we moved i agreed she could come with us as her horse is part of our 'herd' and it made sense financially. She was so keen at first but now there are days upon days where she doesn't even come down. She tells me that she does but i see no evidence of it. My mum and i have been mucking out, feeding etc.. basically treating this horse as our own. I got so resentful of this that i called her round to the house 2 weeks ago and said we needed to have a chat about when she was doing her horse and if she couldn't get down i expected haynets, water and feed left so i just had to tidy his bed and put them in. She has since delegated this job to her useless boyfriend. He doesn't muck out and leaves haynets our 12.2 would demolish in 5 mins. Then she will appear use half the straw and empty the feed bins when there was enough to feed all 5 horses for about 2 days in there. She has texted once about Sam since he became ill on thurs which i find disgraceful. Then on sunday knowing full well how upset and stressed we were she texted to say could we do him as she had to go to a kids party Ironically this was about 12pm and he had already been done for the day and was out in the field with all mine. Monday she said the car had broken down and also failed to appear. Yesterday was the last straw as her car was still broken i said i would pick her up at 9am on the way. She never appeared and made me late. Then sent me a text at 10am to say oops she'd overslept!! I was so mad i rung her and blasted her, she is 18 and was just a typical yeh but no but its all your fault bla bla. I told her i wanted her off. Then she proceeded to text me about how she had to work (part time) and that she had a 'life' (unlike me obviously) and that i needed to 'grow' up!! She then called back a bit later and sort of tried to smooth it over said she came down every day just at different times to me etc.. I asked her why if she came down everyday did she not do anything when she was there, she said she was always in a rush! She said to turn him out she would come down later and she would do his stable. I then get a text to say she can't make it afterall!! I said i was going down this morning if she wanted a lift and suprise, suprise she was ready. In white trainers!!!! She said that she will probably have to move him anyway as her job ends at christmas and she can't afford him. i said I wouldn't do anything in haste as im sure if she tries she can find another job. She is going to try and put him on loan or sell him. If it wasn't for the money i would have asked her move weeks ago. She screamed at me yesterday that i was ripping her off!! I make no money whatsoever from her. I charge her £30 per week and that includes her stable rent, all hay, straw and all feed!! On top of that i turn out, bring in and feed morning and night. For full livery (which it is!) she should be paying minimum about £70 a week just for the basics. Now Sam is so ill if he doesn't make it im going to probably have to move again, i can't justify renting 6 stables for 2 arabs and a pony and wont be able to afford to fill them up with horses. Why is life so flaming difficult?! Sorry for such a long rant, i just needed to get it off my chest! Carol xx |

Posted - 11 Dec 2009 : 3:29:22 PM OMG!!!!! you are a SAINT I would have been furious her poor horse she does not deserve to have a horse and she is being grossly unfair to put on you like that and then to have the front to face you let alone to have a go at you big hugs to you because I for one think you must be a very special person to have put up with all this crap, she was very lucky to have you and so is her horse poor thing |

Posted - 10 Dec 2009 : 6:38:38 PM Might even be worth talking to HAPPA as she is effectively neglecting the horse. You may have to be hard-hearted and stop doing things for her, tell her that you are going to stick strictly to the terms of your agreement. If she's lost interest in her horse, then going to a rescue would probably be the best result for the poor beastie!
Also, check with your insurers - most insurers have a legal helpline. If so, take full advantage of their advice and work within what they tell you you can do. I believe it is NOT legal to take any animal in lieu of payment WITHOUT having the owner's full permission, which doesn't sound likely to be forthcoming with this individual. However, getting HAPPA/WWH on to her might just wake her up!

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 7:46:17 PM Very difficult situation when there is a defenceless horse involved, but this girl is really taking the proverbial, and given your current stressful situation her attitude is appalling. But in the long term the part livery sounds like a good option - my best friend pays £95 a week for full livery bar exercising... |

If he would have no problems with me doing it then i could in theory take 1 full livery or one in for breaking/producing (or 2 diys but this i think he would have a prob with as he wants minimum people coming down). The problem is i have 2 little girls so although i can do all yard duties i find it hard to ride without someone watching them. Although if the right person wanted me to take on a horse i would have to sort out childcare, potentially i could take on 2 liveries if i get rid of her which would actually pay for my own and then i would be 'working' at my yard. I will have to have a chat with the owner, i don't actually think he cares what i do and as ive not seen a contract yet and there has been no mention of me not subletting as it were i think it could be an idea! There are fantastic facilities at the yard too so maybe i should have a serious think about this, it could be a lifeline!
Definately have a chat with him, you haven't anything to lose!
If riding time is a problem, you could offer part livery, so everything bar grooming and riding. If the facilities are good as you say, you can charge top whack.
Not sure if that would constitute sub-letting? Think that would be more applicable if you rented out boxes DIY, but best to check!
Good luck |

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 3:50:45 PM This is something you really dont need to be putting up with at the moment, infact you shouldnt be putting up with it for £30.00 a week!!
Sounds like a very similiar situation I was in witha young girl who thought everyone (Mainly me) should be doing her horse because she had such a hard like working has a part time hairdresser!!
In the end I upped and left which you cant do, but it does sound like you should talk to the YO and hopefully he will see sense and let you have a couple of liveries on.
Hope it all works out in the end for you.

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 3:42:18 PM So sorry to hear of your problem livery, you really dont need this at the moment, has this girl got no sense and no eyes to realise your current situation. Some people are beyond redemption. If your owner sounds as good as you say, I would seriously consider chatting to him to see what arrangements you can come to. Hope everything sorts itself out. I know what I'd ask her to do |

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 2:42:00 PM Wish you luck - and that you were near me. She really is taking the pee. I have been searching high and low for livery and either seem to be charged a fortune for nothing, or their sets ups don't suit.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 1:25:12 PM Not surprised you need to rant! She would try the patience of a saint! This is probably the last thing you need right now!
Do you have the time/space to take on full liverys in your spare boxes? Or DIYs that actually look after their horses? Could be a help financially if they were the right people?
Probably not the way you want to go, but if that was a professional livery yard, everything done for her horse would have been written down and charged for (your time included). If she couldn't pay it, then I believe you can take the horse in payment. Although I doubt you need the hassel! |

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 12:41:14 PM so sorry carol, she's really taking the pee! could you start advertising for liveries? and in the meantime start charging her a fully livery rate? |
