Posted - 17 Nov 2009 : 08:34:47 AM We found about 10 rockets clumped around our stables and one actually wedged UNDER Roupert's door this year. Thankfully, we'd left them out...

Posted - 16 Nov 2009 : 8:52:40 PM I agree - fireworks should be banned from public sale and licensed for organised displays only. They should only be permitted on one weekend around Guy Fawkes and on New News Eve.

Posted - 16 Nov 2009 : 6:06:58 PM Poor horse! Looks like he made a mess of his back leg as well, what a shock it must have been for those who found him. I hate fireworks, too, after having a scare with three of mine two years ago. Proper displays only, with lots of advanced warning notices! |

a friend of mine lost her unborn foal new years night, as the mare panicked because of fireworks, and went into labour... the foal was alive but didn't stand a chance as it was way too early. |

Posted - 16 Nov 2009 : 4:45:40 PM I agree, fireworks are a pain. They should be band. we normally have some going off most weekends and the horses have got use to them, but not when they are on both sides of them.
I have a gelding that has done a bad ligament injury and was well on the way to recovery, but on the Saturday he had to be turned out in the big field with the others as he was going mad in his small confined space.
Fortunately he was scanned Friday and he has not done any further damage, the ligament is healing very well.

Posted - 16 Nov 2009 : 4:07:10 PM That poor horse!!!
I hate Fireworks night and all the nights leading up to it and after it! It is soo stressful for any animal owner and think of what the poor wildlife go through?
Where we live, we had neighbours setting them off at 10:30pm in the pouring rain! How is that fun for anybody?
Personally I think they should be kept to public licensed displays only, if at all!!! Although I went to a display this year and it cost £7 for 20 mins of fireworks! Granted they were exceptionally beautiful ones - no loud bangs or weeeees BUT what a rip off! I won't be going again! The parade through the town of the school kids and their floats was much better and that was FREE!!!
P.S. I was at the display where they blew-up Jordan! Very funny but not worth £7 IMO! |
