I have just bought back my old arab/standardbred boy that I bred, after I sold him nearly 4 years ago. he is assymetrical, having a larger left shoulder which causes the back of the saddle to move to the right.
I was looking on the web at the Rambo air pad, and wondered if anyone has used one for similar problem, or a numnah with shims ( Mattes correction pad).
Any experiences or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Well, tried both the Nummed numnah with shim pockets and the Suber Pad.
The Nummed improved how the saddle sat, with taking shims out of the side where the larger shoulder is and putting extra in the other side, however the saddle still moved over to the right a bit and the impression from the numnah was not even on his back,when I took the saddle off, so yesterday I tried the Suber pad.
I was dubious to start with as it was SO BULKY and I could hardly fasten my girth, but after I had ridden a short way, the pad seemed to bed in and find where it should be on his back and it filled all the hollows.. and IT DID NOT MOVE ACROSS TO THE LEFT!!!
When I got back from the ride I took the saddle off to see the impression it had made in the pad and also the impression on his back, there was a very even large area on both sides of his back and he was very dry under the pad,( they are supposed to absorb sweat) so I am very pleased, it seems to distribute weight evenly and felt very stable on him when I was riding, so its thumbs up for the Suber Pad from me!!!

Hi my boy is the same and he is ridden in a Strada Saddle. These saddles are very close contact and allow free shoulder movement. I tried for many years with different saddles and pads and the saddles still moves. The Strada doesn't. Mandy |

Yes my Nuumed shimmy numnah has arrived, plus I have a Suber pad to try .. just waiting for the winds to calm down,before I get in the saddle. as I don't want to go catapulting through the air!! |

How did you get on - was the suber any good? Has your all singing and dancing bargain Nuumed arrived? |

Have tried the korrector, but he is a big moving horse and i felt quite unstable when riding with the korrector. My friend is bringing me a Suber pad tomorrow to try and I have just ordered direct from Nuumed ( online shop..in the sales section.. a high withered shimmy numnah, it has 4 pockets with prolite removeable pads.. It was half the shop price!! so if anyone wants a nuumed numnah there are some bargains if you go direct!!! |

A Korrector pad may work. You inflate more or less into each part as needed. They are on the Wow website. Not cheap but they sometimes come up on ebay. |

Hi Linda,
The lights have just come on and I think I have remembered something that may do the trick without any need for shims or "pumping up". It also made my treeless much more stable, gave the wither clearance I needed and sorted the atrophy. Only downside is that you do feel a little perched. -
A Suber Pad.
They are made from suber tree cork and the cork disperses into and fills any gaps so that the underside takes the exact shape of the horse (even down to a fly bite so I am told)and the upper takes the shape of the saddle. If you havent heard of them give it a google. David Ahn made them originally for treed saddles but they have taken off for treeless too. They rarely come up second hand so that must be good but occasionally you see them on ebay. They are recommended to use damp to stop a saddle slipping but I didnt find it necessary.
The Haf pad has 2 long shims but you could add a single wither shim to it to raise one side.

Hi Sandie,
I had a treeless for my younger horse, but find it unstable as he was so round and it was nigh on impossible to mount without a mounting block.
I would like to know if your haf pad has 4 shims as I would need less padding in the near shoulder only.
Any other makes of pads with shims that I could look at maybe?

Hi Linda,
I ended up treeless so that my boy could muscle up. Unfortunately we had got into the atrophy/adjusted saddle spiral and it seemed the only way out. Im not sure about the rambo pad. I did look at them but as they probably arent as suited to treeless, I went for a HAF pad. I've not tried the "air" concept but you can get lots of shimable pads and I prefer the softness of foam. I hope yu find something that works well fo your boy. Treeless definately did the trick for us and although there are some downsides, I was much happier knowing he was comfy.
