Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 1:29:36 PM OK who has found turnout or stable rugs that fit Arabs without rubbing the shoulders, or at least as little as possible?!
So far I have tried Falpro - not bad and Weatherbeeta Tarka - also ok but really for the worst of weather, quite heavy.
Any/all suggestions welcome! Thanks.. |

Posted - 13 Nov 2009 : 9:12:14 PM I use Fal and i also have a lightweight (rain sheet) Amigo. The Amigo is 5'9" and is a little short in the belly and the straps are adjusted to their longest. The Fal is 5'9" and fits well.
Nothing has rubbed yet, but i've only had Ozzy since May so haven't yet done a full winter.
I also use Fal & Rambo on my mare (Arab x Welsh) and have had these rugs for years. They are great hard wearing rugs that if you look after them last a long time. |

However replaced with JHL MW - shoulders fine and mane still looking good

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 10:40:53 PM Amigos and bossy bibs for me too; Andre live out 24/7 and is never rubbed. I would definitely recommend getting a size bigger in the Amigo rugs though; Andre usually takes a 5'9 but I buy him 6' in those |

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 10:16:36 PM Fal Pro Viking for me! Kharidian has a lightweight, a mediumweight and a heavyweight and lives out 24/7 and none has ever rubbed him!

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 5:48:25 PM Another one for Amigo/Rambo.
Sucha perfect fit everywhere else aswell and I dont think the horse feels awkward and tight wearing them.
They do tend to pull a bit of mane out at the bottom though but that doesnt bother me because he wont be shown again and its a small price ot pay for his comfort

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:59:01 PM I have Aerborn and no shoulder rub problems with the boys, but the fat mare's rug does rub her shoulders, so have invested in a Bossy's Bib for this winter!

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:57:29 PM I don't particularly like the Amigo's but have 2 or 3 Rhino's with the the extended neck, they fit all mine well and don't rub at all. |

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:53:41 PM Best in my experience, Aerborne, Amigo and Rambo, Mark Todd not bad.
Weatherbeaters are totally wrong shape on all the horses (7) I have had here.

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:40:44 PM BUCAS Both of my boys wear them and no rubbed manes or shoulders! AND I love the lining which wicks mopisture and is anti bacterial too!
I've found WBs and Amigos no good for Shesky, they rub his mane and shoulders! Have brought him a Fal Pro Heavy as heard great things, but if the slightest hint of a rub, I am ready to go get a heavy Bucas!
Pasha seems rub-free in most! But Bucas and Rambo definately the best on him! |

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:38:39 PM I found that the Amigo rug needs the next size up or they rub the mane at the withers? |

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:05:53 PM Another vote for Bossy's Bibs. Have had no rubs since purchase and then it doesnt matter which rug they are wearing. Much cheaper than replacing them. |

Posted - 12 Nov 2009 : 4:04:21 PM Another fan of Amigo rugs here - excellent value for money and no rubbed shoulders on any of ours using them - Although one with a fine mane does lose his mane at the withers but the others don't.
Incidently I have also found Bossy's Bibs excellent to prevent any rubbed shoulders under any rugs in the past too - perhaps a better option if you already have rugs that are good in all other ways! |
