Just to let everyone know who has been asking after him he is home from the Dick vet for a while anyway, he has to go back for further x rays.
He had a wee colic attack on Sunday after getting home but is back in fine form now.

Posted - 22 Nov 2009 : 10:28:29 PM Just a wee update on wiz
He had his stookie reduced on Friday to just below the hock so that means that the pressure sores are going to be able to heal.
He is walking out twice a day now and the mornings walks are entertaining to say the least....which I am taking as a good sign as he is full of the joys
Re xray now in Two weeks and counting down the days.
Thanks again for your good wishes and concern for him.
Oh and just to add my brave boy won the Scottish Group ridden points championship today |

Posted - 17 Nov 2009 : 5:54:59 PM I'm so glad the honey dressings have helped, but sorry to hear about the swelling - fingers crossed that it is short term and he continues to heal |
emmaD |
Posted - 17 Nov 2009 : 5:41:07 PM The honey dressings are working.......
we had a dressing change today and the sores are much less sore if you know what I mean
even better news on Friday we are doing another change and this time only bandaging to under the hock so the sores will be able to heal...... we are looking at a way to be able to put the honey dressings on but with no pressure bandage to that they dont get infected.
Only down side his skin is very bad today and he has a large swelling from his front legs along his tummy to his willy and lots of sore bits mainly on the side the bad leg is on........steroid injection tomorrow |

Posted - 13 Nov 2009 : 8:50:35 PM Dear Emma,
I am sorry to hear that he has been sore.
It seems that the road to recovery is sort of 2 steps forward, 1 step back...
Let's hope that it is just a 'blip' and he continues to get better.
Best wishes, Sandra x |

Posted - 13 Nov 2009 : 5:59:51 PM Not such good news today folks
We had had to do another dressing change today as he was very sore this am......Its not the break or the wound its these bl**dy pressure sores. Have redone his sores with mankuna honey dressings, (grandma thought these might help as she uses them on her old folks with bed sores etc) I ordered them from my local chemist.
So he is back on the bute and another dressing change on Tue....vet now thinking she may have to reduce the bandage to try and help the sores but where does that leave us with the fracture

Posted - 11 Nov 2009 : 6:17:59 PM Oh Emma,
I am so happy that The Wonderful Wiz is doing well. What a brave boy he is to be dealing with it all so well.
Can you imagine the foals that my Buffy and your Wizard 'could' have had (hypothetically!)
Brave, courageous and very good looking, but somewhat accident prone, I think!!!
Really chuffed for you and him!

Posted - 11 Nov 2009 : 5:58:24 PM 11/11/09 a wiz update.
He had a stookie change again today and vet is so chuffed with the leg and the wound, swelling right down on the break and the wound is healing really well. only downside is he has developed another pressure sore he had one above the hock when he came home but has now developed another one on the front of the hock too....they are very sore and we have had to pad them to the hilt.......so the stookie is taking longer than ever to change ::) but he being a brave soldier and managing it without sedation ;D
Sandra, he is off back to the dick vet in three weeks time for more xrays hopefully we will know better how long he will be stookied for. |
