Posted - 11 Jul 2009 : 8:27:08 PM Sorry this is totally self indulgent but I have just had the most AMAZING day and need to share it with more people!
Sarah (Sazzlepants) and I did the 25km NCR today at Windsor Great Park - awesome doesn't even begin to cover it! So I'll let the photos do all the talking as I'm still grinning stupidly and am verging on being too tired to put a coherent sentence together!
Having just arrived, Goni spots other horses cantering in the distance...
Vet check - with a heart rate of 44
Eager to get going...
Waiting at the start...
And we're off!
Attempting to take some photos at speed.... Superwoman Sarah!
Back safely (and still grinning!)
Waiting for the vetting - where she had a heart rate of 42
Going home
Sorry for the photoload but you could say I've been well and truly bitten by the bug!! Agonia absolutely loved (as did Ramak) and seeing them so happy and enjoying themselves just made it for me.
Thank you SO MUCH Sarah
Lauren (Well done if you made it this far!) |

Posted - 15 Jul 2009 : 9:12:00 PM Hi Pauline, thanks for the tip...i'll have a look at my local group i think and see about joining some training rides with someone experienced being my buddy...really hoping to give the boys quite a variety of activities other than showing and dressage and this looks so much fun |

there will always be people around that will be able to help (Ride with)
Another way of learning about the sport is to join a local group and go on a training / pleasure ride.

Posted - 15 Jul 2009 : 1:43:59 PM Sarah, Lauren - always happy to crew for you, am going to crew for my friend at the rides she does so long as they dont clash with showing. If I'm there just let me know times and checkpoints and i'm all yours
Cant make the 12/13 september as showing but will definately join the rides for next season on Erik, so long as I can join in with someone as it may be a bit daunting on my own for the first go |

Posted - 15 Jul 2009 : 12:39:52 PM Looks like you all had a wonderful time!
Both Ashdown and Firle Park are lovely rides but both are a bit stoney so you might have to take it easy over the stoney sections.
We won't be @ Ashdown Forest, but are entered for the 2-day 160km ER @ Firle Park so may hopefully see some of you there? |

Posted - 14 Jul 2009 : 2:22:06 PM Firle is lovely - its sort of between Lewes and Eastbourne on the South Downs. Big climb up the downs then some nice grassy canters, back down the hill and a long trot home. Its more challenging than Windsor though because of the hills, and some of the going can be a bit flinty if you are not used to it, also plenty of gates on the Downs which there arent in Windsor Park. Its a two day ride too so you can do either day. I cant do this because I'm doing a 'bridlerides' weekend but planning to enter Ashdown Forest if I'm not too late which is 8th Aug. So glad you are planning to do more. Are you planning to take Eric, Nadia? Yes thanks Sarah, trailer now fixed. There was something wrong with its brakes so every time I braked it banged into the tow bar.

Posted - 14 Jul 2009 : 08:24:14 AM Ooh I love the photos. We had a problem with the trailer on the way to the yard so we couldnt go. I was so disappointed, it was such a lot of preparation but in the end I couldnt put a horse in a trailer I knew wasnt quite right. I love the action shots of Sarah and Ramak! You all look very professional. Which one are you doing next then? Jx |

Posted - 12 Jul 2009 : 8:04:37 PM Great pics, glad you and the horses had such fun - I've been hearing all about how lovely it was from my mum who did the 25k on her veteran gelding with her friend Angela on her mare. Would have liked to have gone along too if there had been more room on the lorry - maybe next time!! |

Posted - 12 Jul 2009 : 12:40:33 PM Glad you both enjoyed it. Have to be a CR next time. It brought back sad memories but I still enjoyed it.
It was lovely to meet the Rich family, and Czako as well, Maggie Su and Pauline there. I did write down the numbers of all the people from AL but left it at home. Typical!!!
It was lovely to hear the Natty is well and enjoying her retirement! |

Posted - 12 Jul 2009 : 12:03:42 PM Well done you. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Windsor park ride is a wonderful ride. Did you get to see many deer in the deer park. I did the ride a few years ago and was amazed by how calm all the deer were with the horses going right past them. I even saw one deer standing on its hind legs trying to snatch some leaves off a tree. Only downside of the ride for me was that Mia had managed to dump me only a few hundred yards from the start, she did a really violent spook at those great big metal grate things, so I ended up riding the whole 32k in agony. We still ended up with a grade 2, so I was well pleased (1 heart beat from a grade1). We also broke down on the motorway on the way home, which wasn't very nice as Mia was getting well stressed.
