Posted - 04 Jul 2009 : 7:04:33 PM Hi Folks sorry but this is going to be a sad post, some of you may remember reading about poor edie the mare my friend ann loaned out to a certain person (known to some of you) only to come home battered and blemished. Well as if ann had not suffered enough stress she has had to endure more pain, while away on her holidays a mutual friend of anns and mine (precious) was kindly looking after her horses some where out at grass some stabled, yesterday i got a call off precious to say a lady who has her horses with anns had found anns little yearling filly collapsed and was not sure if she was still alive! precious asked if i was nearer as she was caught up in traffic, i rushed over only to find poor muffin dead with blood coming from her back passage, it was heartbreaking, precious was so distraught as was i, the vet came and said she was sure it was a major organ failure or fatal twist, she had been fine earlier in the day munching on carrots and apples. Poor Ann arrived home from her week away only to be given the heartbreaking news! The story is even sadder as this little filly was born to a mare ann had rescued from the gypsies, she was chained to a tractor emaciated and almost dead! ann showed her kindness and fed and cared for her only to find out despite her condition she was in foal. Muffin was born and was such a lovely coloured filly, she never knew the cruelty her mum had endured for years, and deserved a lovely life which she would have had with ann, unfortunately she must have suffered damage in utero as her mum was so worm ridden and poor. My heart goes out to Ann and precious who are inconsoleable at the moment. Please send them both some hugs. |

I can't believe this bad luck Ann & Precious are the most caring horse owners you could ever wish to meet.
I'm really sorry for them and the lovely rescue mare, who has lost her little girl. |

Posted - 06 Jul 2009 : 08:53:50 AM im sitting here still in tears reading all these lovely replies i cant belive that she has gone!!! Seeing her little body just lying there was unbearable and making the call to Ann who had just returned off break was the worst ever. Lovely muffin was fine the night before munchin apples i took down and she was fine grazing with the others in the morning too but by 3.45pm she was gone. Thank you Jamana your right i can't stop thinking what if i'd ?!! I stayed with her right until she was returned to the place she was born, i couldnt leave her on her own. Thank you V for being there i dont know what i would have done if you wasnt i couldnt even remember what road the field was on when i called the vets.
You were a stunning filly that had the best of everything from the minute your owner Annie saved you by ripping open the birth bag. RIP little Muffin

Posted - 06 Jul 2009 : 08:40:41 AM What a lovely mare and foal; Ann should be very proud of herself for the love and care she has given them
There may have been nothing wrong with Muffin; these things can happen. A friend bred a foal from her part-bred mare and the foal had a fatal colic at about 9 months old. It was ill and dead within a few hours before anything could be done. Both the mare and foal had never been ill or neglected, it was just one of those tragic things. She never bred another foal and never will as she was too upset by it all.
RIP Muffin, your memory will live on.

Posted - 05 Jul 2009 : 11:02:35 PM My sincere condolences to all concered, but my special thoughts to Precious, as someone who cares for other peoples horses when they are away, I truly know how devestated you must feel when this tragic event has happened whilst they are in your care. and thought there is nothing you ould have done, you will feel i'm sure that perhaps you may have missed something? or was there something else you could have done? and hoe responsible you feel. But there was NOTHING you could have done and NO WAY you could have known. Please take comfort from that, I am sure that ann will have reassured you.
Again heartfelt sympathy to all |

Posted - 05 Jul 2009 : 11:26:55 AM So very very sad.......life can deal the hardest blows...and it more seems, to the truly caring owners who give their all, to ensure a good life for cruelly abused horses and ponies.
Anne is one such person....her horses and dogs take priority over all else in her life. The animal world is blessed to have such people looking out for them.
Little Muffin and her Mum....not your fancy valuable pedigree show horse....just the ordinary `Jo Bloggs` of the equine world but they found complete comfort and happiness, thriving on the kindness and Anne`s TLC.
Gallop freely across rich green pastures little Muffin knowing you were much loved in your short sweet life and will be so missed but never forgotten.
