Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 11:01:41 AM Can anyone recommend a good fly mask? my mare always gets infections and the mask i have for her at the moment seems to sit too close to her eye and makes her rub it off!! Also my other horse has only one eye and i wondered if a fly mask would be suitable for him too? |

Posted - 02 Jul 2009 : 5:57:44 PM I tried the Cashel one on Dennis and he hated it. It was too long in the face and the nose part was too long. He kept trying to rub it off so I bought him an Equilibrium one and it is brilliant. My only criticism is that it thins the hair across the nose after a few weeks use where the padding is.

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 10:43:54 PM equilibrium fly mask with ears is so good i have two after trying many others. Buy them when on offer otherwise expensive, about £27. Cob size for my 14.2hh mare. They are very adjustable as has two velcro bits. Take at look at derby house web site.

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 1:30:17 PM What size do you all get? I just rushed out to get Pickle one in my lunch hour got to the farm and it's far too big! I thought she'd be cob size but will have to go and swap it for a pony one after work. Very annoying! |

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 1:29:32 PM I recommend the Rambo fly mask. It has a stiff gauze that doesn't touch anywhere near the eye and ear pieces. The small size fits my Arabs. It doesn't have a nose piece so wouldn't work for a white/pink nose but excellent for keeping off flies and doesn't rub off. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 1:11:29 PM We also use the cashel masks on ours - they are fantastic. Although Ali does seem to manage to get hers off every now and again. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 12:49:03 PM I have Cashel for mine, but they still seem to get them off (I think I have eels, not horses...), but the only one who keeps his on for any length of time is my one-eyed boy!

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 11:49:45 AM I have a cashel for a really sensitive skinned arab mare and it is brill she gets a burnt nose but the headcollar rubs if i put a nose shield on so went for one of these with a nose they seem to be soft and comfortable and give really good coverage. p.s U can also get them with pink ears!!!!!! |

Posted - 01 Jul 2009 : 11:21:01 AM I use the Crusader Fly Masks from Cashel (full nose ones) - they come in Arab size too and are FAB!
Seen a new one advertised in H&H and BD Mag - looks like it's a sort of triangle thing that sits away from the eyes - looks good and might try it, although it doesn't have a full nose which is a problem for my pink nosed boys! |
