my horse had respiratory symptoms on exercise at first. It then continued with a yellow snotty nose, barking cough when eating. No loss of appetite remained perky just irritated in long grass and eating food. This all started 10 days after visiting another yard. So i guessed it was caught from there. She had two courses of antibiotics which seemed to clear things. it came back after 10 days. We then decided to bronchoscope her, to find thick yellow mucus and raised eosinophils. Another course of antibiotic and mucolytic (thins mucous). This worked for 3 weeks only for
the cough to return again. She was scoped again yesterday and she has a very inflamed lymphoid tissue (our tonsils) and again thick dark yellow mucous. Poor girl now wonder her cough is back with such a sore throat. This has been on going since April. Anyone had a problem like this?

my now 2 yr old filly last year had a really irritant cough and a lot of clear snot sounded quite rattly in her chest too and that ended up being an pollen allergy we use a brilliant thing called Ventilate by Winergy it's not cheap but it's the next best thing to Ventipulmin and we use it during the summer months on her and have had no probs this year, we also use it with dust allergy sufferers in the winter absolutley brilliant stuff

My loan pony had a cough with thick yellow mucus. Vet prescribed 10 day antibiotics and the stuff to thin the mucus. So far so good, although he only finished the course on Sunday, but no cough just yet. He's been happy and perky throughout, ok to ride etc, just this annoying and irritating cough. My field has buttercups so it could have been an allergy.

My 19 year old mare had the same thing earlier this summer. The cough and yellow mucus. This was put down to a pollen allergy (Possibly the buttercups) although it has not stopped her competing and she is going just as well if not better (we compete in endurance).

I gave her some hoemopathic treatment plus some NAF cough mixture.

My old girl presented with all the same things a few months ago, she has been diagnosed with a really bad pollen allergy which apparently alot of vets are seeing this year in horses that have never had it before, my girl hasnt had this before.
