I was just wondering if anyone had tried any of these suppliments and if any one had found them effective

My Arab Mare has always been very sharp and after having 18 months of (due to me having a baby and the weather being so bad last year)seams even sharper since i've brought her back into work. I also have a new forest who feels the same as before so I don't think it is me.

My friend who is also my instructor said it would be useful to speak to other arab owners because in her experiance certain types of suppliments can have a different affect depending on the breed of horse.

Also I have limited grazing and have to suppliment with hay all year so again she may not be getting all of the minerals etc. she needs although she does get Happy hoof, speedy beet and badmington horse fibre nuggets

Hi I've used Nupafeed , Blue Chip Karma, Naf Magic , Tranquil (Valerian calmer ) and plain Brewers Yeast on various ridden liveries over the years and I felt that we had some success with Naf Magic but otherwise it was Brewers Yeast and Tranquil in second and third place . I'm afraid Nupafeed , which we used for ages on several horses here had absolutely no effect whatsoever, When a vet friend explained to me that magnesium will only work on horses that actually have a magnesium deficiency . He told me that such a deficiency is rare so that was why it wasn't working for me .
Hope that all helps .

hi the Nupafeed Liquid Calmer takes about a week cos you use a loading dose to start with. There is a helpline number on there site they good with advice and will speak to you about what you want it for.

Thanks for all of your replies it seems like it is going to be a case of trial any error to find one that suits but will start with some of them you have suggested.

As an after thought roughly how long did it take for the ones that were successful to take affect?

For my Non arab who is one hell of a handful to ride.
The only supplement that had a small effect on her was the Nupafeed Liquid Calmer, i tried that many on her it cost me a fortune.
It is trial and error but nupafeed got my vote.

Look for a low starch content in the hard feed - preferably feed nuts over mix.
One of my boys was a fruit loop on mixes, but when we dropped the starch level there was a marked improvement.

I also used a magnesium suppliment on my stallion which took the edge off - made by horse health.

I think the NAFF one is called Magic Calmer, the one I use is called Magnitude... worked on my gelding, but did nothing for the two girls...

A magnesuim supplement helps them calm down. But it does take a while to get into there systems.

I used one on Kazzy and cant for the life of me think what it was
I think it was a NAFF one but not to sure.

We tried various calmers on our Polish mare. The one that works for her is Nupafeed Liquid Calmer.

I think it's down to trial and error really. What works for one horse, often has no effect whatsoever on another!
After trying a few on my SE, I've found Feedmark Steady Up Advance works well for him!
Global Herbs Instant Supercalm is working for my Crabbet/US 4 year old
I'm still trawling through various supplements to find which one works best for my PBA.....etc etc...

umm calmag and brewers yeast has worked a treat with my insecure half bred mare and i noticed my stallion a lot more laid back witht he cal mag, bot pretty cheap and seems to have worked for me fine.
