Well what can i say.... Have located my Timmy after 6 months of sherlock holmes and help from my parents, Missing Horses On Loan and the police.... But..... We are having a problem getting him home and having to play the waiting game AGAIN. He has been located in Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have 3 mares out on loan; I had a medical problem which meant that I would be laid up for at least four weeks so I put my mares on loan. In the event, I was only out of action for just over a week so needn't have loaned them. However, they have gone to lovely homes, thank you Rhoni and Ash, and the loaners have got very well bred, good quality mares to breed from. It has worked very well for me.
I was in negotiations about loning my colt to one of the people who it seems sells on loan horses but as she didn't come to see the colt, just wanted him without coming to see him, she didn't get him and he is still here safe and well. A very lucky escape but no way could she have him without bothering to come and see him and my getting to meet her.
One must always either know the loanee or make as sure as possible that the home is genuine. This lessens the risk but unfortunately it is no absolute guarantee that things will work out.
I do hope you all manage to get your horses back, there but for the grace of God go I!

I am horrified to think that people feel that it is irresponsible to put a horse out on loan. I had my first pony on loan, I later bought him and he has been out on loan 3 times. I have learnt something each time. I have friends whose horses have been out on loan with great outcomes. Loaning can be fantastic, its just a shame that some people are so dishonest. People need to think about what is right for the horse, maybe more checks should be made, and I dare say anyone who has read this thread will if they ever put a horse out on loan in the future. As you say we are all only human. |

Think everybody needs to take a deep breath and calm down!!! Havent been on for a few days and am suprised to see the slating that some peope are getting.. At the end of the day we are all very concerned about our missing horses. Every reason for going out on loan is different and probably in the horses best interest at that specific time. As it was in my case, being pregnant spewing 10 times a day and not having enough energy to blink let alone look after a horse. We need to be supportive of one another and help each other through this very difficult, depressing and mentally exhausting time, please dont mock us for being human and caring for our horses. I still dont now where Tim is or how he is or if i will ever see him again!!! Just put your selves in our shoes for a moment and try and understand how and what we are feeling. Thank you to everybody for your well wishes and support. We wont rest until they are home safe ad sound. |

Unfortunatley it takes as long as it takes. Im into my 4th month now. I know how frustrating it is, whats worse is that i keep imagining myself getting up early to go for a ride with this nice weather that we have been having. And i have nothing to ride :-( Its heart breaking, but at the moment it is part of my life and it is happening so i just have to deal with it. I just wish that i will wake up one day and it has all been a bad dream and Tim is still in his stable pacing around waiting for me to feed him. |

ARRRRGGGGH Just had the police on the phone now they have had the case details for nearly 2 weeks and only now have I had a phone call from the investigation office who only works part time which is why she hasnt contacted me until now (my horse could be who knows where by now!) She made notes of all of the case again this is the 3rd time as it was taken down when I reported it, by the Horsewatch co-ordinator and now by her...she needs me to sign my statement then will investigate how long is this going to take? she was very sympathetic but admitted she didnt know about horses/loans and asked me what a freezemark was!!! I am so dispondent I just dont know what else I can do at the moment. I have even offered to buy him off of them but they wont name a price. |

I think we need sherlock holmes onto our cases, his hat and cloak are very horse like i.e tweed, LOL. In my case no news is good news, still dont know Tims location, if i had money i woud hire a private dick!! infact i would hire a nanny to look after my children then buy a big land rover and hire a body guard (scare tac tick!!)then drive around the country looking for him my self. With a horse box at the ready. Having an ok day today hence the sillyness. Need to be chearful, sick of feeling sorry for my self and down in the dumps winging at everybody. Chin up girls we can get through this. |

Nothing happening with me I am waiting on the police and getting desperate as I am worried that they will move Charlie and I will have to start looking for him all over again. |

I do also appreciate that they could be oblivious to the fact that they have purchased a horse belonging to sombody else. I do agree with sally, my Tim is freeze marked and he is also registered to me, so if the new owners had gone through the correct channels to start with we may have both been re-united with our beloved horses. Honesty is the best policy, i know that i couldnt sleep at night if i knew i had a horse that was stolen. my gut instinct would be telling me to do the right thing. Whilst i do appreciate that they could well be the person that comes off the worst, rest assured that they are not feeling like we are at the moment! Chin up everyone, we will keep on looking. |

Cinders I appreciate your thoughts and believe me I do feel sorry for the person who bought my horse but I also love him dearly and have owned him since he was 3, broke him and schooled him myself and he really is my horse of a lifetime, he only went on loan as I was left by my partner and had a 3 month old daughter and could not offer my boy what he deserved at that time which was to be out competing as he had just become affiliated - I asked for him back and that was when the loaner disappeared with him. I must point out though that had the purchasers been thorough when viewing him they might not have bought a stolen horse as he is freezmarked and registered to me so if they had checked up it would have been flagged up to me and I would have intervened. So yes I do feel sorry for them but do they care about my feelings or the other people like me ie: Tim the arab? |

I do symapthise with people in this situation but please let us spare a thoughtfor people who have purchased horses in this situation in good faith and who are looking after them well.
Through ni fault of their own they will end up without a horse that they have probably come to love and out of pocket

Lisa I do know what you are going through as Charlie went missing in 2005 and I have only just find him and it was thanks to a pm from an AL member so thank you to her. I went through all of the scenarios in my head that he was dead, injured, ill, being ill treated etc... but nobody could or would tell me where he was, I hope you find him soon and that you can go claim him as I am hoping to with my boy they are of similar ages and it would be nice for him to end his days with me. |

Its even harder not knowing where your horse is, how he is etc. To me its the not knowing that carry's most of the pain! |

Hi I have his freezemark certification and his paperwork that I got when I bought him 15 years ago and a receipt. The loaner had him passported but it doesnt match any of his other paperwork. I have sought legal advice and its more complicated than he is mine so I am coming to get him...if I do that they can have me arrested for tresspass! its really difficult if he was a car that is exactly what I could do but because he was out on loan and because he is a horse its a grey area according to the police but they are looking into it. I also have missing horses on loan acting for me. I think its up to the loaner to provide a bill of sale to prove that she has bought the horse from me which of course she doesnt have because I havent sold him. It is heartbreaking knowing where he is but not being able to touch him or give him a cuddle and tell him things will be alright. |

i cant imagin how you feel knowing where your horse is. Who has got all his paperwork etc.
What has your legal advice said, is he still legally your horse! If he is cant u just got get him? |

Hi Lisa & Rose, I am off in a minute to speak with the Horsewatch co-ordinator as the police hadnt passed on the call to him...So hopefully I will know a bit more where I stand later but its such a busy day for me today. I have just had my colt gelded, my mares teeth rasped and the vet thinks that she is now in foal so bloods have been taken, off now to the police station, then pick the children up from school, ferry them to a party, check on the horses again then pick up my new car! Does anybody have a cloning machine as I am not sure how I am going to fit it all in. Sorry to hear The Mare has a sarcoid Rose but no surprise that it wont be looked at!!! I was told he had received his jabs but he hadnt. |

Have you spoke to the police and asked for them to go with you to see this lady. Maybe the sight of a policeman may scare them into handing over the horse.
