Posted - 24 Apr 2013 : 09:47:22 AM I've an old MW Lux (pre Albion!) dressage saddle that I use on my (mostly Connemara) mare, and on my husband's huge ex racehorse (only thing that keeps us on when he starts pr@tting about in the school....), and it is lovely and very supportive, but Bertie is SO wide - it's a bit like sitting on saddle on an exercise ball, so I'm not sure that I'd find an Albion wide enough, because just wide would definitely NOT be, and the cost of a new one would be prohibitive! |

Posted - 24 Apr 2013 : 09:22:10 AM Thank you for the suggestions - I've got a Wintec Isabelle for my old Arab, but Bertie is way off the scale (the Wintec gullet gauge, that is...) so the only wintec dressage that is likely to fit him is the Wintec Wide dressage - and I don't know whether that would suit me. I have a Thorowgood GP for him, but I really don't like it (seems to be stapled together - looks really substandard quality compared to the Wintecs) and now he has grown a wither, although the gullet is the correct size, I'm not happy with the fit, so I wouldn't like a Thorowgood dressage. I'm currently riding him in an Ideal VSD, which was custom made for my old Arab when he was young, which fits him beautifully but which has a very flat seat and I struggle to keep central in the saddle - I've a dodgy left hip, and since Bertie is young, so is still quite one sided, and wants to shift me to the right, its a constant struggle for me. However, since he's happy with the VSD, I suppose I'll just have to keep struggling! At the moment I have to think about pointing my belly button over his right shoulder as I sit in rising trot and really stretching my left leg down. I've got physio tomorrow night and hopefully next time I have a Centaur Biomechanics session I'll see an improvement! Getting old can be a trial! |

Posted - 17 Apr 2013 : 6:23:07 PM I have a Lavinia Mitchell which is a lovely fit as Arabi has a wither with a more dipped back so flat saddles will not fit him. |

Posted - 17 Apr 2013 : 3:18:53 PM prestige saddles every time for arabs - they are compact, sit behind the shoulder, accomodate a flat but wider rib cage and are very comfy plus 100% adjustable tree ! |

Posted - 17 Apr 2013 : 12:56:37 PM I've got an Ideal Lianne, seems to be the best fit for an arab. My saddler had tried numerous saddles on a previous arab and finally came up with this one so it was the first one we tried and fitted great. |

Posted - 17 Apr 2013 : 12:53:38 PM I love my Ideal jessica that i have for my stallion although im not sure if this would be suitable for your boys shape. My friend has a bates (although its not used on an Arab its used on her PRE stallion who has a flat back) and is also very nice to ride in. Good luck with finding one.
