Selections for the first Arab race meeting of the season attached below. 1st race at 2 p.m. and some very competitive handicaps lined up.

1st Race - Pure Arab (PA) 8 Furlong Maiden for 3 yrs old up :
TO WIN - Balik D'Albret was all at sea last year as a juvenile, but is well and sure to have strengthened over the winter.
PLACE CLAIMS - The selections stablemate Eustral is well bred and should be thereabouts, as should the Royal Cavalry of Oman's Razen (4th last year).

2nd Race - TB,AA & PBA OPEN over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Yankey scored a hatrick last season winning from 8-13 furlongs being crowned champion OPEN horse, he should score again here.
PLACE CLAIMS - Watch market for ex- flat raced horses, but Dancing Grace was champion Anglo last season and whilst entertaining in the parade ring she is talented and won over 8f as well as being placed in all her OPEN races. Trouble Maker won at Hereford over 9f and is dangerous if he stays this trip.

3rd Race - PA Handicap 0-95 over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Majaales comes from a strong family of performers and won over 12 furlongs at Huntingdon before just being touched off by Maghazi in the Gold Final at Warwick over this trip, has 7 lb pull with top weight and looks progressive.
PLACE CLAIMS - Mudalal impressive when 2nd to Tidarbret over this trip on debut and then won over 8f at Salisbury, looks on upgrade. Manaal did nothing wrong last term winning maiden over 6f before landing premier handicap over this trip at Newbury.

4th Race - PA Handicap 0-50 over 1 Mile:
TO WIN - Mahbishai showed plenty of pace when winning by 3 lengths over this trip at Market Rasen and should take this.
PLACE CLAIMS - Sabden looked back to her best when winning at Huntingdon over 14 f, she also won her maiden over this trip. Golden Dream has plenty of speed and won at Huntingdon over 6f and was 2nd at this track over 6f last term.

5th Race - PA Handicap over 0-65 over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Niege Al Maury is a Dormane half sister to multiple UK & UAE Group 1 winner No Risk Al Maury but showed nothing last term, sure to have strengthened up over the winter and should hack here against this company.
PLACE CLAIMS- Hard to split 2010 Champion Arab Wikkara ( 3 wins 8-13 f), Star Valentina (course and distance winner), Katwalk (7f winner) and Altesse Kossack (8f winner), should be a close finish.

6th Race - PA Handicap 0-75 over 6 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Flashcat improved out of all recognition last season and firmly put his sire on the map, winning 3 times from 6-9 furlongs, has useful turn of foot and looks to be improving.
PLACE CLAIMS - Pinkie Tuscadero will love the firm ground and won in fine style at Hereford over 7 f, whilst Jamaahir opened his account on Dubai Day in the 7 f handicap and followed up over 6f at Warwick.

7th Race - PA Handicap 0-80 over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Noble Athlete had a fantastic season in 2010 winning twice from 8-9f and being placed 7 times inc. coming 2nd over this trip, failed to fire last year but has dropped from a mark of 90 - 80 and if back to his best will take all the beating in this grade.
PLACE CLAIMS - Whisper is as tough as teak and incredibly consistent, she won over this trip last term and was placed on all her other starts bar 1. Pacific Way also continues to impress and outstayed the field in dour fashion when winning at Hereford over 2 miles.

8th Race - TB, AA & PBA Handicap 0-175 over 7 Furlongs:
TO WIN - Kitchen Sink won over 8f at this course last term and looks capable of scoring again.
PLACE CLAIMS - Balerno was knocking on the door last term and was a good 2nd to the selection here. Red Myth impressed when winning over this trip at Huntingdon.

Well done David with Mahbishai and Glen with Katwalk!

Arabian Racing Review by Paul Simmons

Taunton Saturday May 14th

The Royal Cavalry of Oman Maiden Stakes over 1 Mile:
An impressive debut from the Gill Duffield trained and HH Sheikh Hamdan owned Eustral (Al Sakbe x Danse Avec L’Eau), always travelling well he quickened clear impressively in the final furlong to win by a length under a half for jockey Phil Collington and clearly has a big future. The Royal Cavalry of Oman took the next three places, with smart recruit Hajes (Vertigo x Al Muhabah) making the winner pull out all the stops in the final half furlong. Whilst Al Batra’a (Newday x Mustabshirah) seemed tapped for toe in the closing stages but was kept up to his work to hold onto third.

The Summer Alternative to Point to Point Open (TB, AA & PBA) Stakes over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs:
Annie Bucknall released a potential superstar when Elliot’s Choice (Foxhound x Indian City) outstayed the field in fine style under a confident ride from Simon Walker, he galloped readily clear of the field to win by three lengths for owners Mrs Lewes and Mrs Little. Dancing Grace (Dancing Spree x Hardtoboss) put in another solid effort, always handy she chased the winner all the way to the line and was well clear of the field. Trouble Maker (Green Desert x River Abouali) stayed on well in the final furlong but was well heard.

The Harwood Arabian Stud 0-95 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
A great start to the campaign for the Royal Cavalry of Oman owned and Saleem Hakmani trained Mudalal (Darike x Rawabi) who ran a blinding race to hold off the sustained challenge of stablemate Kerbelle Lotoise (Kerbella x Dheila Lotoise) and HH Sheikh Hamdan’s Juhood, he showed a useful turn of foot inside the final furlong to win by just under a length. Kerbelle Lotoise was gaining with every stride at the line but couldn’t pass the win but remains one to watch. Whilst Juhood (Al Sakbe x Tamani) looks to have strengthened up over the winter and battled on hard in the dying strides and will be interesting at this level over a mile.

The Athbah Stud 0-50 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile:
A select field went to post and they all went a fair clip from the start with Golden Dream and Mahbishai showing good early speed, and as they entered the home straight it looked as if Golden Dream was going to steal it but Mahbishai (Mahbuba x Lola Caramba) under a determined ride from Fred Offord galloped into the lead to win by a length for trainer David Paton and the BXPS Partnership. Back in second was Sabden (Bengali D’Albret x Sambella) running a decent seasonal debut, she ran on strongly in the closing stages and remains in great heart. Whilst Golden Dream’s (Khairoaun x Autumn Dream) stamina didn’t quite last home, to her credit she was kept up to her work to hold onto third by a length.

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club 0-65 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile 2 Furlongs:
This valuable race attracted the biggest field of the day and they went a fair pace from the start with the field tightly grouped , as they approached the back straight Katwalk, Floren and Altesse Kossack were all travelling well. As the field entered the final two furlongs it was Katwalk (Makzan x CS Shamal (Bengali D’Albret)) under a well judged ride from Steve Harrison who powered into the lead and kicked clear to win in awesome style by an easy eight lengths at the line for owner Liz Kiff and trainer Glen Kiff; and on the basis of this effort is the one they all have to beat in the Wathbah Stud Breeders Cup on June 9th. Speaking afterwards Kiff said “She’s a nice mare and we’ve always thought a lot of her, we thought she’d run well today.” Back in second was an excellent seasonal debut from Floren (Bengali D’Albret x Florys De Nautiac) who ran on well under owner/trainer/jockey Terri Smith, and he was all out in the final furlong to hold onto second. Whilst Altesse Kossack (Marwan x Azedine A) was always travelling well and stayed on well in the home straight for third ahead of a fast finishing Senor Dublecheck (Bengali D’Albret x Mais).

The Royal Cavalry of Oman 0-75 Handicap Stakes over 6 Furlongs:
Beverley Deutrom started the season as she means to go on with an impressive victory here for her flashy colt Suhaim, owned and bred by Cornelius Mol. Odds on favourite Flashcat blew his chance by losing lengths at the start, but the rest of the field set off at scorching gallop with Pinkie Tuscadero, Syras Gris, Razen and Suhaim all showing early speed. As the field quickened into the final furlong the four principles were in a line down the centre of the track, but it was Suhaim (Dormane x Seceryna) who was pushed out under an impressive ride from talented claimer Craig Thompson to win by a neck. Speaking afterwards winning training Bev Deutrom said “That was a superb ride from Craig, he’s a very nice colt and he did that nicely, but really needs further.” Back in second was a good effort from Razen (Saut Du Loup x Hadhoodh) who was head to head with the winner in the final furlong and just failed to get up, he is one to note next time out. Whilst the Adam Newey trained pair were a length back in third with tough sprinter Pinkie Tuscadero (Izentespeshal x Altyv) just getting the better of the young gun Syras Gris (Khoutoubia x Akara De Syrah).

The New Season Open (TB, AA & PBA) Handicap 0-175 over 7 Furlongs:
Emma Owen owned/trained and ridden Adalar (Grand Lodge x Adalya) made a successful return to the ARO circuit with a last gasp victory in the shadow of the post to defeat an almost certain victory from Mandy’s Maestro. The pace was fair from the start and as Mandy’s Meastro (Brahms x Belle Masque) went for home inside the final furlong he was being chased by Highly Elaborate and Adalar, but it was Adalar who just got up in the final strides to pip Mandy’s Meastro for victory, Highly Elaborate (Halling x Elaborate) kept on for third.

The Athbah Stud 0-80 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile:
A good staying performance here from HH Sheikh Hamdan’s homebred mare Mahra (Bengali D’Albret x Group 1 Dubai Stakes winner Sophie Du Loup), she was always travelling well under Phil Collington and upped her pace inside the final furlong to pull readily clear of the field to lose her maiden tag in style for trainer Gill Duffield. Whisper (The Wiking x Sucha) ran her usual game race back in second, she helped force the pace and chased the winner all the way but was never going to reel her back. Whilst Noble Athlete (Dorwan Du Cayrou x Noble Dame) ran well for a long but seemed to tire in the closing stages and will surely come on for the run.
