After all the chat about hard ground (see previous topic) we had lots of rain and the ground for the Devils Dyke ride was as love as it can ever be! Lots of nice long canters and plenty of walks across the stoney tracks. Beautiful canter through the Dyke as usual. The rain held off just long enough for us to do the 34k and we had a FAB time with the three grey geldings!
It was Tuki's first novice CR and I'm over the moon with him. He kept a steady head through most of the ride, apart from the mega tantrum when the other two rode ahead of us and he lost sight of them, and the nap when going past the way home to the yard. But no pulling, no silliness, just plain fun to ride. Apart from one slight mishap with me nearly falling off and Tuki getting stuck in the last gate, we had a brilliant ride.
Vetting this time was easy, he knew it wasn't showing anymore and stood perfectly still for the vet while still trotting up nicely. Heart rate 32 on going out and 32 on coming back suggests that he was fit for his job, laid back at the venue, and very lazy as he kept telling me he was tired half way - the fibber!! At least I know I can push him more next season.
A huge thanks to Arachnid (and Sarah) for sticking with us although we were slower all the way around. We couldn't have done it without you guys

The Dyke is brilliant for a blast. you turn the corner at the bottom and wow there it is, very fond memories of blasting up there, not done so yet on Sami, also not so good memories of being chased up there by three large Briards. The last bit is very steep always temped to get off there but haven't given in yet. |

Excellent photo Arachnid - you go at what speed you like (i would probably do the same!, sometimes dont have much choice )

Just bought the nice photo of us cantering through the Dyke - horses virtually needed crampons at the top. I think it is lovely so here it is - from left to right Tabita and Tuki, Sarah and Flecky and Spider and me
Have noticed from the other photos that not everyone chose to do it at a canter! Clearly we have much to learn... |

Shah - Marygold jealous?! Nah - she'll be relieved that she's not having to work so hard. Lazy little mare really! |

Sorry to hear Marygold is out of sorts - but still it is the end of the season.
Shame about your two Pauline. Hope they dont need the vet by Thursday.
We are not resting but doing some dressage over the winter. |

Unfortunately both mine were lame at the end.
Gillian thought Mydass was earlier but he seemed to be fine later on.
I did not feel anything wrong with Crystal but while washing her down she was resting her left hind.
Both seem fine this morning. Vet is coming on Thursday anyway to treat Gillian's horse Zaleem so he is going to look at both mine.
Both had good HR Mydass 30/40 and Crystal 39/45 so not feeling too sore.
End of season so they will have some time off.
I will be heading for the Arab Marathon with Dainty next week. She has had a very good season.

Well done all of you! Sounds like you all had a great time.
I decided not to take Marygold in the end. I still think she's not quite 'right' so am giving her the winter to get right again and hopefully back to doing what she does best next season!

That was such fun! Tuki was a star. Thanks to T and Sarah for keeping Spider sane especially through Summersdeane (where we normally gallop being local riders which really isnt on the menu for endurance!) We got a grade 2 on heart rates of 40 and 47 which is normal for my little showhorse-who-thinks-hes-a-racehorse.
