Hi all, just wanted to let other Arab owners know that they have classes for us but there was only us in the inhand at Pontardulais last year Please please support our shows in Wales, we all know the prejudice against the breed at these local shows, so it's up to us to show our horses, which I believe encourages people who would otherwise just listen to the biased views and maybe choose a different breed to be involved with. At our last show, (obviously His Nibs was naughty)
we were asked by many people about Arabs and even approached by someone thinking of buying one in the near future so please brave this awful weather and get your girls and boys out to as many little shows as possible, we love having Rossettes but when they are empty from no competition it means nothing, I would much rather come 3rd or 4th and deserve it than 1st because we are the only entry I know I keep saying it and have probably bored you all but it really is up to us to make things change.

PM.d you arabesque.
George, tried with an older stallion earlier this year-his behaviour was impeccable-both in the ring and outside even with little children on their ponies around him.The judge made a big thing of running her hands up and down their legs as if to make it look what she knew what she was doing asked his age and promptly put him at the end of the line without even bothering to look at him.Even at 19 he does not have a mark or a lump on his legs .He does have plenty of bone and is the shall we say not the current fashionable airy fairy type but a good Arab nontheless with many attributes sadly being lost.
I just lose all heart to be honest when a person who doesn't keep arabs just dismisses what I consider to be a good example.
The previous week he won his class and was R.Ch. BUT with an Arab judge.Had he been last with someone who knew what they were looking at then so be it -that is showing.

Hi George, have answered your PM.

Sadly, we can't bring anything to either show, although we were hoping to, but I'm not going to be home.

I agree with your philosophy of getting out there in numbers, if the demand is there from competitors it should encourage more shows to put on Arab classes, and make it worthwhile to find judges who at least like the breed! We're doing similar in our neck of the woods where we can, but it is disheartening, with no competition it's almost an insult to the horse being produced, especially if they are then put below something that seems inferior because the judge 'doesn't like Arabs', or they don't conform to the plaited 'norm' surrounding them! Our next outing is to South West Ponies Championship show, (there were only two in our qualifying class ) so hopefully we'll have some arabs there, but it clashes with BACS and the home-produced championships.

Nashiba - I didn't realise who you were until now. Hope you get your 'mojo' back in time for next season .

I totally agree! especially about the Judges but sometimes you get lucky (Roy Thomas judged the llanedi show) but at most you get the ones who seem to dislike them I just think that the more get out there the more potential entries for the next year as other owners would be encouraged by it.....well we'll just keep going anyway it can be disheartening when the Judge doesn't know anything about the breed though, we were asked once by the judge if Nabil was an Arab the fact that it was an Arab class didn't even give it away

George,we have shown our Arabs for over 30 years now both in hand and ridden -been to Malvern,BACS Wales and West and supported as much as we have been able the county and local shows.Doing a bit of judging too along the way.
Although we are older now and not quite got the enthusiasm of years gone by partly because( and this is not sour grapes by any means )because as anyone who knows us will know that we were always happy with whatever end of the line we were placed as long as the horses did enjoy and we got them home in one piece.
I know from a show organisers point of view that trying to find judges is a thankless task and you cannot please everybody but why must we constantly have judges for the Arab/PBA/Anglo classes at the local and county level as most shows are not affiliated to AHS due to the cost outweighing the entries who do not know an Arab if they tripped over one!!
We usually get judges whose preferences are Shetlands or Coloureds and get given the Arabs as an afterthought-don't usually like them and I'm sorry but the last outing with a ridden mare in an in-hand class who trotted with no break -did not spook at anything -in fact did not put a foot wrong-we were told TOO exhuberant!!
Total waste of time -money-and to be honest I wish I'd gone for a nice hack instead.
I do hope that someone will read this and take note because I shall have a new colt who is coming in November and I would love to try and get my "mojo" back before I get too old to do so.
I have entered Pontardulais George but with a LR pony-haven't had a schedule for Llanddarog hopefully there will be an"Araby" judge.
Have had Llandyfaelog and couldn't have wished for better-Diana Whittome!!
