Hi

can you tell me whether my yearling colt would be down graded in his class of youngstock/yearlings/arabs cos half of his mane has been rubbed away?

he has rubbed from the wither half way up his neck. I have tried so much to get it to grow back, but it seems that the Mega Trek Builder mane lotion doesnt seems to be working.

He has a youngstock class this sunday, at a local show, and he is at the Chiltern Rider championships next weekend, in yearling class and in arab/part bred arab class.

any help is very appreciated

We are just doing the youngstock class just so we can get her out to a show. Will be interesting to see how she behaves, she is so laid back it shouldnt be a problem. Fingers crossed.
Look forward to seeing you.

I wouldn't worry at all about rubbed mane!
My mare's was chewed off entirely last summer by her naughty filly, and then she has continued to rub all yaer from March on - despite every lotion and potion going!!
However, we exhibited her at Towerlands last week and it didn't affect her 4th place!

TBH you are going to have to work hard on his presentation and try and defer the eye away from his mane. Ware is nice and small - is barbara judging?

lol yes going to Ware - just the youngstock class - as a warm up for CTR champs next weekend - what class are you in?

Which show are you going to is it ware as we are taking Kirstie there for her first show. We will be the ones with no mane and a tail that looks like we pulled it.

Put a stop to the rubbing with an anti-rub product. I have a filly who would be mane and tail less if I didn't treat her from spring onwards. Prevention is better than cure. PM me if you would like the names of the products that work for me. I have conducted an experiment this summer and tried stopping the expensive food additive that I use alongside the lotion. The filly was noticeably worse and needed more of the lotion. A combination of the two works a treat! Good luck at the shows.

My B mare managed to rub a section of her mane out a few years ago - it didn't stop her from taking red & blue ribbons - looked awful though. Not a "quick fix" but pure coconut oil helped with the regrowth and I use it as a detangler/tamer - smells nice too

Hi thanks for replying.

he started to rub it around august time - hes been fed fibre conditioning mix and build up mix twice a day all summer as was a little poor after winter, so i doubt its the food.

i think he just might have been a big itchy - i dont know if the mega trek rebuilder did any good or not, my nails look good after rubbing it into his mane and tail, but hes mane just looks the same, if not a little thick but no longer

A good judge will be looking at your boy's qualities, i.e. conformation, movement etc. His loss of mane is just aesthetic but if it came to a decision between him and another of equal quality then it might sway the judge's opinion a little.

Do you know what is causing him to rub? My lad rubbed his mane out after our first show this year putting an early end to our season. I took him off Alfa-A and he has stopped rubbing.

Hope it all goes well at the show. The experience will be good for him anyway
