Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 11:38:46 AM Having watched some of the pure-bred in hand classes at this show yesterday, I just had to say how disappointed I was at the poor entries. This is one of the major shows in the South East and to have only one entry forward in the 2-3yo colt class makes a complete mockery of putting the class on and the other classes were also very low in numbers. Unless exhibitors support this show the organisers will have to think long and hard about whether they will continue to run these classes, which I believe are already subsidised. |

Posted - 13 Jun 2009 : 8:18:24 PM Babs, re your post about Scilla's win, I think this proves what we have all been saying about AA/PB's supporting County and other non-Arab shows. When they are with porfessional pony producers especially, it is more economical to forget the Arab shows and do the others where there is prizemoney and also the handlers have more horses in other classes to fill the lorry. At least they are out there doing something though.

Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 4:42:44 PM Have to agree with SueB & Rebecca, it is not cheap to enter a show these days, as an example, for me to enter one class at my regional group with a stable was £79, Nationals, one horse, one class and stabling £135-00!!! Add on to that diesel costs and it is VERY expensive (You really do not want to see my credit card bill)
I think we should applaude those that are still managing to enter shows in the current climate, I am sure that attendance will get better once the economy sorts itself out. As a first timer this year with a novice ridden mare I have to say that her ridden classes, so far, seem to have be very well supported
Kimzi, your boy looks fab, even if he was the only one he still deserved to be 1st! Well done to you and your boy |

Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 2:55:18 PM Have just received an E-Mail from Linda Alexandroff, who's two year old Part Bred Arab Filly, Petite Etoille (Sunray Sincerity/Syon Star) won her 2/3 yr old class and was Anglo/PBA Champion.
Petite Etoille (Scilla) as yearling 2008
The Anglo/PBA classes were all well supported and several top County Champions were exhibiting in these classes. ( 10-yearlings, 12-2/3yr olds, 6-mares, 5-geldings and 5-stallions entered)
Hopefully, does this mean that finally the Anglo and Part Bred Arab classes are getting better supported ?? Just got to be Good news
Well Done Scilla....keep flying the Flag

Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 2:50:36 PM I do agree it is a real shame that the entries were down but have to agree with Sue .....it is a sign of the times I have been to 3 C shows this year and the entries at all 3 have been very disappointing. But at least we are supporting them and hey Kim Fred might have been the only one in the class but he did look FAB didnt he??? he really strutted his stuff....love the photo Sue has posted as well. |

Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 2:08:51 PM Kimzi, don't ever feel embarrased about being the only one in the ring.......I promise you the judge will feel even worse. Your lovely colt did very well at another show the weekend before, here is a picture of him kindly taken by Annie of Dean Ingham Photography.
Whilst we can all come on here and suggest that lot's more must support the shows I really don't think it will get bums on seats, we need to ride this out and sadly watch from the ringside as we will loose some shows. I'm sure they will and can be reinstated at some time in the future. If this is a sign of the times then why not give huge amounts of praise to those like Kimzi, who do get off their backsides and support the shows rather than comment on why just one horse turned up?! |

Posted - 12 Jun 2009 : 11:58:45 AM I agree, a very poor turn out. seems to be the sad fact of the arab showing this year, I thought Hocon was very poorly represented too, lets hope the nationals is better. |
