Posted - 20 Jun 2010 : 12:08:08 PM ....a full blood sibling to our handsome Anglo, Sunray Stepaside pictured below
.....and what did we get..........ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!
His Dam, Marie (SUNRAY SWANSONG) covered 9th July 2009 and believed in foal, getting fatter and fatter and never showing signs of being back in season....when very recently examined by vet...NOT IN FOAL
Been having doubts for a few weeks as had never seen foal kicking, but she physically looked very pregnant
So, proving even with many years breeding experience.....our beloved brood mares can make fools of us... !!!!
Oh well, covering her today, and hoping she will produce 2011

Posted - 25 Jun 2010 : 07:40:57 AM Oh Babs what a shame - I heard only a couple of days ago of the very same thing happening to a friend of mine, she thought her mare was overdue, had her checked only to be told she wasn't in foal
My mare on the other hand was covered in April last year but end of January this year I wasn't convinced she was in foal, usually she is enormous and shows every inch of being in foal but she was so different this time, I called my vet who examined her and agreed she really didn't look in foal, he listened and couldn't find anything except a very, very faint movement underneath in front of her udder he said that as there was nothing to explain the kicking coming from that position he'd assume she was carrying but had never seen a mare like that before and not to hold out much hope, on 15 March she produced a beautiful filly These mares - they have us all fooled on occasions !

Posted - 24 Jun 2010 : 10:59:21 PM Sorry to hear this, Babs. As others have said, the same thing happened here with our only pure bred mare - two years on the trot As she is now almost 21 years old, we have thrown the towel in and she graces our fields as a beautiful ornament ! Glad to hear you have another chance of a beautiful sibling to Stepaside, I will look out for the announcement next year !

Posted - 20 Jun 2010 : 7:22:20 PM FOOEY! That's horses I guess - we had the same with pba mare covered with month old foal at foot, broke and recovered - all quiet.... then Nov to May she was pudling for every gelding in sight every 21 days.... and presto - filly foal!
Never mind, hope she cooperates this time Babs! |
