Posted - 16 Nov 2013 : 7:02:11 PM I am looking for a photo of this horse as he's the grandsire of my mare. Apparently he is/was a well known endurance horse. I am gathering photos of my mares breeding etc but cannot find a photo of him. Would love to hear from anybody. Thanks |

Posted - 22 Nov 2013 : 4:03:56 PM There are indeed photos and mentions of Tarim in both Marcy's two books. When she was Marcy Drummond, she wrote Long Distance Riding published by Crowood Press in 1987: in this there is a b&w pic of Tarim at a checkpoint on p.62; and another of him ridden by Val Long leading a group of riders in the 1986 100 mile Summer Solstice Ride at Southwell which they had previously won in 1984 and went onto win a third time in 1988 at Hexham. There is a really nice full page b&w photo in Sue Parslow's Going the Distance (David & Charles 1989) on p.28; another of him being crewed at Golden Horseshoe on p.98 and a third going through water possibly Golden Horseshoe on p.182, on p.183 there is a biog of Val Long and Tarim listing their achievements (which were legendary). In Marcy's more recent book Endurance Start to Finish, there is a colour pic on p.225 of Tarim and Val doing a Golden Horseshoe Qualifier on Dartmoor in 1986. Marcy's mare Rani Tarina (successful in the early 1990s) was by Tarim, as I believe are several other good endurance horses. Tarim himself has a biog on p.162 of Ann Hyland's book The Endurance Horse (J.A.Allen 1998) also a very poor b&w photo. Ann said of Tarim: ...he does not contend a very full season of rides, rider Val choosing his events with care but when the chips are down you can be sure that Tarim will be giving his all. |

Posted - 17 Nov 2013 : 1:53:04 PM Hi there, no I don't know anybody and I'm trying to get to grips with all the breeding lines etc...slowly piecing it all together. I found an article from when Val Long got a gold medal for Britain in Rome http://www.ceredigion.gov.uk/utilities/action/act_download.cfm?mediaid=38556&langtoken=eng But there's no pic of Tarim :( |

Posted - 17 Nov 2013 : 1:40:52 PM I am pretty sure Tarim in a photo is in Marcy Pavord's book on endurance - I'm not at home so I can't check, but maybe you know someone who has a copy? |

Posted - 16 Nov 2013 : 7:16:55 PM Judith messages me ages ago when I first purchased my mare. She's an Anglo so her sire is TB, although Judith said he's 3/4 TB so a sports horse. Not much info on Tonto's breeding but I'm in touch with the breeder who own him and bred my Nikki, she has sent me lots of photos of my mare as a foal and a yearling etc which is absolutely amazing. But I am really interested in the Arab side of things too, it's brilliant seeing all the photos! Thanks for you help x |

Posted - 16 Nov 2013 : 7:07:48 PM I'm sure I've got a picture of him somewhere...if I'm thinking of the right Tarim. He was Val Long's chestnut endurance stallion? Let me have a dig around and see what I can find for you |
