Posted - 13 Sep 2012 : 9:25:47 PM Hi, can anyone give me any information about the stallion Phariz ? I have seen references to his racing career and that he won the desert marathon with HH Sh Moh'd but I cannot find any information about this by googling him. I would love to know his racing and endurance career successes and if possible any photos or any other data if anyone can help ? Also does anyone know anything about the mare Gelma du Volday ?
thanks |

Posted - 10 Dec 2012 : 7:09:01 PM Owen Endurance bred a few youngsters by Phariz in 2007 & some are on their web site for sale. Jenny Owen had a win on the sire... Nazzerin racing at Larkhill 1991. (Nazzerin was bred at Miss Bowditch's and Owens had him in training).

Posted - 14 Sep 2012 : 4:20:58 PM Oh yes that's right Miss Bowditch did breed him. Joan & Ian Rawnsley of Aberllwyds Stud did have him though for several years and will be able to tell you more about him, I should think they may have also had the mare you are enquiring about. My gelding by him is named Aberllwyd Ibn Phariz and is very much like his sire. |

Posted - 14 Sep 2012 : 2:54:10 PM Just seen Gelma Du Volday! She was the property of Darley Stud management when she went through the Ascot Sales in 2003 for £1000. She has a 2005 offspring by Phariz called ABERLLWYDS PHARELMA. |

Posted - 14 Sep 2012 : 2:34:04 PM He was bred by Miss Bowditch at the Dorocina Stud. He raced successfully as did his sire, Nazzerin. I think it was Beverley Deutrom (might have got that wrong) who bought him from Miss Bowditch. There is a (not very flattering) photo of him on allbreed; link below. He was a very good looking horse.
edited as I forgot the link! http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/phariz |

Posted - 13 Sep 2012 : 9:52:07 PM Phariz was orignally owned by Sh. Hamad bin Abdullah al Thani of Umm Qarn Farms. He did win Quatar International Desert Marathon in 1997, I think he was 2nd the year before. He was then bought by Joan & Ian Rawnsley from Aberllwyds Stud nr Lampeter and they had him until he died last year. I have a son of his (he is the bay in hand in my sig pic- this was taken at the BEF Futurity as a 2yr old, he is now 4) I'm sure the Rawnsleys would give you more info, they probably know the mare. |
