Isn't that Mikeno in this film? I also recognise the mare and foal at the end but can't put a name to them!

Posted - 04 Feb 2011 : 9:50:56 PM I wonder how many modern Arab fanciers would dismiss Skowronek as too short in the neck and not extreme enough in the head?!?

Posted - 29 Jan 2011 : 8:52:27 PM The AHS Endurance Test was held 3 times in the 1920's
1920 Shahzada won it and Robin was second 1921 the mare Belka won it (ridden by H V Musgrave Clark) and Shahzada was second (both grey) 1922 Shahzada won it again (don't know who was runner up)
The AHS didn't hold any more Endurance Races until the 1960's. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2011 : 11:46:52 AM Thanks for the thanks, Sue - though there was no need for it.
Can I recommend that anyone reading this uses the search function on the British Pathe Website - as there's tons of other interesting stuff on there. Have you found the Arab Horse/Arab Hound (Saluki) one yet?
Finally, must admit that when I first came across the Crabbet Park clip (purely by chance) I was absolutely thrilled to bits to see Raseem, by boy's GGGG Grandsire on film! There's a bit where Raseem turns his head to face the camera - and believe me, his ancestor Pharaoh (Flowersfield Fanfare) has inherited that exact same facial expression!

Posted - 27 Jan 2011 : 2:19:13 PM Well one of the girls on EGB put it up and I could not resist in sharing it with you lot....she deserves a medal for effort in finding it after all this time. Skowronk looks better than the ones they are breeding today?????
She's got another one, of a 5 day x60 mile Arab Marathon... will get that too. Endurance riding from 1921..... any suggestions to who they are... The Grey is the Stallion exported to Austraila in 1925...SHAHZADA,by Mootrub, he was 2nd in 1921, Won this event the year before at Darlington and Won the Arab Class in 1922 at the London Spring Show. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=18255
Big Thank You to Sam Hunt from EGB....for sharing.. Enjoy! Sue |
