I am after the names of a few of MOOTRUB's offsprings for just after the turn of the century.. if anyone can help with their registered names and where they are recorded..please.Number,stud book and colour sex.etc.etc....needed...

Moortub at this time was in the ownership of the Radnorshire Polo & Pony Company under the ownership of Rev.Montefiore,E N Henriques & the late H C Stephens...although the company was sold in 1906.

Hi Folks, Nice to see you back.
I've updated the Mountain Ash GB info, thanks Melynda, well spotted, I've also updated the Bounce recorded as a SHIRE..it was a TB,
Bounce 1868,s.Flatterer 1861.d.Bittern 1861 (Fisherman 1853).
Hope it all correct now...
Brought another querie to the fore...Looking for 'Confidential' and to complete that pedigree. Left it as a new posting.

Pedigree for Patron Saint is wrong on Allbreed. His dam Isobel is not the right one her name was St Helen by Springfield.

Found Lady Postlip listed in the RASE Journal of 1904 on snippet view.
The Radnorshire Polo & Riding Pony Co Ltd, The Farm, Bleddfa, Llangunollo, RSO, for Lady Postlip 721, chestnut foaled 1895 [foal by Mountain Ash] bred by Stuart Forster, Postlip Hall, Winchcombe; s Mootrub 32, d Fatima by Mootrub 32.
Stuart Forster also seems to have bred Kitty Owen as well as I found this listing in the RASE Journal of 1905 on snippet view.

Hi Robbie, Anything thats not contained in the allbreeds write up would be of interets. There not much on his life in Australia, so add some thing from then and I'll load it up to allbreeds.
My interest is in the early foundation stock of the famous lines of riding ponies here in GB., the Bwlch Valontino lines and all those early imports, not necessary all Arab. I'm still collecting info and just hope to get some of it in print for those interested in the future. Many of the early GB imports that played such an important role in the riding ponies were not Crabbet, many where Polo ponies and native ponies.

Hi Sue, Would love to give you info from Australia. Shahzada born 1913 at Mr HC Stephen's stud, England. Mootrub purchased by General John Hills India - he won races in India. Shahzada was imported to Aus. by Mr AE Grace. Shahzada was a most influential sire here, particularly in endurance pedigrees. The Shahzada Memorial Endurance Ride is held here annually, in his name.He excelled at the Sydney Royal, winning champion stallion each year from 1926 to 1933, 1934 & 1937 his son Sirdar (from Nejdhmieh IMp) won, 1936 and 1940 his son Hadji (from Miriam imp) won. And that continued for some years with his grand progeny. I can give you more of those details if you wish. Shahzada certainly left a great legacy in Aus. Let me know what you need about his progeny etc.

Just bought some old GSB's from Austraila.. I bet you've got lots of books with imports reference, plenty on the Crabbet horses, they appear in most lines here.... I'm also interested in the one's that got here that were non crabbet... like Sahara & Bashom, imported by their officers at the turn of the century and some saw active service.

Have found Big Brother in the RASE Journal of 1907.
Mrs A Hayes-Saddler, The Cranhams, Cirencester for Big Brother, bay colt, bred by Radnorshire Polo & Riding Pony Company Ltd, s Mootrub 32, d Bride's Mother 1572 by The Ghost 108.
Also found a Bookworm in the Bath & West & Southern Counties Journal of 1905.
Rev D B Montefiore & Col E N Henriques, chestnut colt Bookworm (supp 1902) bred by Rev D B Montefiore, s Mootrub (32), d Girton Girl (952).
Found Aristocrat in the RASE Journals of 1904 & 1905.
Col E N Henriques, Mursley Stud, Winslow, for Aristocrat, chestnut, foaled 1901, bred by Rev D B Montefiore, Islip, Oxon; s Mootrub 32, d Girton Girl 952.
Both entries are in a brood mare class. The 1904 foal being by Mootrub and the 1905 foal by Delicious.
I've found a Delicious in Baily's Magazine of Sports & Pastimes of 1905.
For four-year-olds likely to make polo ponies. 1 st, Bridegroom by Eheu, out of Flirt. 2nd, Delicious by Eheu, out of Dainty. 3rd, Spinning Wheel by Sandi- way, out of Catherine Wheel. 4th, Tommy Atkins, pedigree unknown.

and here is Tangerine.. In the GSB.Vol.XX. Arab section for pre 1900..A BARB...
Color: ch. 14.2h.Barb.
Tangerine a Chestnut Barb Mare, whith a white blaze, four white legs and white splash under stomach, presented to the Sultan of Mororro in 1901 to Barron Mintzingen, who was sent by the German Emporer on a mission to the court of Morocco, who disposed of her to Mr Hope Brooke through Mr G.H.Feranan of Casablanca. Covered by Mootrub in 1902, who was with the Rev.Montefiore on the Shropshire Hills.
1903 Ch.Colt MOOT POINT ( as above) s.Mootrub.

According to Dr Gazder's book The Arab Horse Families of Great Britain 1875 - 1973, Shahzada (grey) was foaled in 1913, s. Mootrub, d. Ruth Kesia by Ben Azrek so looks like it is the same horse with possible name change? |
