I'm posting on behalf of someone who hasn't got a computer. She has bought a Part bred arab and informs me it's by a stallion called Baksheesh. She is based in the South East.
The only Baksheesh I can find was born in 1947 and this can't be him.

She is a novice and I've asked her double check spellings! but in case anyone here might know a stallion called Baksheesh I would love to help this very keen newbie with her first Arab.
This 'Baksheesh' quite possibly might not even be a purebred.

Any info is really appreciated. Thanks.

Just found the role of Honour or the Marathon winners and really enjoyed the trip/link round their place.

Dr.Martha Kiley-Worthington Won on BAKSHEESH in 1981 & 1983. Got no pictures from those years, but was there in
2000 at Salisbury Plane when the Part Bred Arab mare SHEMAL won with Chris Rundle aboard. Got pics some where of that day..and yes Dr.Martha was riding too and in those home made bailing string bridles. Still didn't hold them up..with the winner coming home in 1.hour 31mins. I've got a feeling that Dr. Martha finished well and may have come home in second place on the Aboud offspring Druimghigha Oberlix (must check).

We also saw this couple at Red Dragon competing (not sure which horses), the year before they went to France (I think).
Flittermouze won the year before with Emma Owen up.
Murtada and Jime Lane won the year after.
Tokar Ibn Teelah with farrier John Croft was winner the next year.
Kayeed won in 2003, and a delight to see him come back and win ARO racing in the last couple of years.
Tell-a-Porky (TB) & Emma Owen won in 2004, crew got cake all round that day & Porky is still in the family.
and must not forget, 1996 & 1998 Cathy De Boisset won and sandwiched Phezelda and James Owen's win in 1997.

Leaving the link to egb's site (top pic is eric Jones's marathan start at Thuresby Park. James Owen (on Irish marathon winner) is in Red on the right, Emma's on Porky winner that day.

Sorry off track got carried away.
Will see I can find the pics out.

goodness was it two miles we missed - didnt look that far when we double checked afterwards! I was completely inexperienced at that level then and had, in fact ridden the whole course with map beforehand but as I remember it the markers were so close for that last loop that you could see both of them depending which way you looked! The next year someone else did the very same thing and was awarded a place which seemed a bit wierd.Yes I thought Royal Mistral was lovely too and would have made a great husband for my mare (I was the one on Nazeefa). Strayed a bit from the original thread here but great memories

Well Moosie you are mentioned in despatches!
Here it is from the article... One of the horses mentioned, Royal Mistral was stabled near me, he was a lovely stallion.

hey big well done to Offirathe guy with the beard on the left is def Chris Rendle (partner of MKW)Dont think the grey is Baksheesh though. Cant see myself - I think I was towards the rear at the start. Together with two others I managed to miss out a loop of about threequarters of a mile near the end - we actually came in 1st 2nd and 3rd but couldnt understand what had happened as we knew there were some ahead of us(technically disqualified which was rather a bummer and I was all for going back and doing the missing loop but by the time they had discussed where we had gone wrong it was far too late!)So that makes Baksheesh born in 1973 by my reckoning - not 1963 - all makes sense now!!!

Thank you so much indeed. I've copied this best I can and have sent it with the pedigree to the owner of part bred. I know she wants to do endurance so this will give her a much needed boost.
Thanks again.

I have rootled through all my old mags and found something on the 1983 Marathon. There is a photo - could the grey be Baksheesh? Moosie perhaps you are in photo too?

also a bit from the text showing him as an 11 year old stallion (write up was in 1984)

Sue J Posted - 10 Nov 2010 : 7:02:19 PM
There are at least 2 horses competing now in endurance.
Druimghigha Luxor & Druimghiga Shanti. Luxor belongs to a friend who posts on here. I crewed them both when they rode together at Cirencester this year.
Avonbrook Posted - 10 Nov 2010 : 6:52:26 PM
Yes, that is/was her prefix. There were some good horses out competing with it. Don't think I ever fully cracked the spelling when vet-writing.

It seems that Druimghigha was a prefix that she used ?

hi I actually remember Marthe Kiley Worthingtons Baksheesh (think Irode in the marathon against him, they had two entries that year(she rode one and Chris Rendle rode the other) and I remeber very well they had made their bridles out of what seemed to be baler twine! - but cant for the life of me remember which year that was!! - Somewhere its vaguely possible that I have the old racecard stashed away. Cant believe that he was born in 1963 though -maybe its a typo? Will have a dig .............

Baksheesh, born in 1963.

But according to Allbreeds his sire was only born in 1967
Offira Posted - 10 Nov 2010 : 11:41:27 AM
I have more!
The reason you couldn't find him on Allbreed is because his full name is Druimghigha Baksheesh.
Here is the link http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/druimghigha+baksheesh

There is even a photo of him *Offira jumps up and down in an excited manner*

There is a record of a horse called Baksheesh in the EGB archives but only shows a result for one ride on 30/6/85 at Mull. (note: the early records for endurance were a bit hit & miss I think) and as he would be getting on in years when he did this ride, he probably did more previously but they have not been recorded.
He was ridden by a J Barlow I can't find any more records of J Barlow so presumably she rode the horse later on in his life and she hasn't done endurance since unless of course she changed her name.

Offira you're a star!!

I only have stud books for purebreds and allbreeds of course. Maybe BabsR might help me.

Thankyou all so so much.

I remember him as Dr Kiley-Worthington's horse too.

Here is a snip from her website
Baksheesh, born in 1963. He became an internationally known Anglo Arab performance horse, placed 3rd in the first ever British Arab races, won the Arab marathon twice, won 3, 80km endurance rides in the early days, and took part in one of the first 160km in one day Summer Solstice race on the South Downs. He jumped, won cross country and worked at medium dressage level as well as breeding naturally by running with our mares.
Avonbrook Posted - 09 Nov 2010 : 6:19:08 PM
Not totally sure, but for some reason the name is linked in my mind with that of Marthe Kiley-Worthington.
