Kavora Kind Sir was a brother to Sarnau Venus, so by Bwlch Valentino and out of Naseel daughter, My Pretty Maid.
Sarnau Venus produced the outstanding 'V' line of riding ponies.
Sarnau Stud now have a website with some rare archive pictures and information.

Thank you Mylinda, Nice write up for Gypsy Gold by Mrs Hinton over two pages and she sounds as if she's got a picture of her too....
I hope we've got the correct Good Luck Stallion for her now. Did find Motor Car II..in HIS...14 stone weight carrier Hunter and bred in Ireland. makes me wonder.
Thank You.

Could Tiger Lily be Connamara????.

Phyllis Hinton gives a description off "Gipsy Gold" in her book and mentions her thoroughbred sire "Good Luck" and Welsh dam "Tiger Lily", I don't think she would mix up the welsh with the connemara. Describing the sire as thoroughbred might just be a small misstake as this Good Luck wasn't quite pure but I think he is the more likely one as he stood in Ireland and not France.
I think there might be an old prefix missing.

Great Help Melynda, just as I thought, the wrong Good Luck entered on all breeds, will correct it.(Hope this is the right one).
Thanks for the Naseel info. There may be more in the PBAR Vol V.
Gypsy Gold, was 13h and born in 1934.Died in 1954.
Could Tiger Lily be Connamara????.
Thanks very much.
Great info.
Cheers Sue

Have read that Mrs K, V, Coates started showing ponies in 1935.
Kavora Kismet won the Richmond Championship in 1938 ridden by her daughter.
There are quite a few ponies with the Kavora prefix.
Melynda Posted - 21 Nov 2010 : 7:23:44 PM
Mrs S. A. Nicholson was given Naseel by her husband. He was registered in her name in Vol 5 AHS Stud Book of 1937. I would therefore guess he went to her as a foal or a yearling at latest.

Good Luck in Ireland was an H.I.S. stallion born and bred in Co. Cavan by Hugh Gray (he also owned dam, grand dam and great grand dam). He stod 15 1 1/2 hh so not very tall, which fits in. I've put his details here;
http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10666294
I am trying to dig a bit more to see what I can find.
So far I've drawn a blank on Tiger Lily and Gypsy Gold in the WSB Indexes from Vol 1 (1919) - Vol (1966).

Hi,

Thanks for ther info. I've already imput to the Gypsy Gold info on all breeds, BUT, I dont believe the sire is corect and need someone with the info to confirm her sire, this TB horse is French bred and all his off springs around the year ie: 1934, when Gypsy Gold was foaled are located in France, with nothing in Ireland... So has anyone got any more info about the sire. please, was the wrong button pressed and another sire of the same name used and Not this French bred horse..Help needed here please...

Anyone got any more info on the sire line please.

Also, I am trying to confirm that the dam TIGER LILY was with Mrs Nicholson (Ireland) at the time Gypsy Gold was conceved. 1933.

and can anyone confirm where NASEEL was stationed in Ireland.Yes with Mrs Nicholson at the above stud at Balrath Burry,Kells.Co Meath.
Thanks Sue

Hi Ronnie, Good to hear from you and thanks for the imput.

The 1914 horse Convert Rue is recorded in GSB Vol.28. sired by The Convert.( who was at stud in GB from 1911) (no trace of Covert Rue)...will check it out.Leaving the TB link... Thanks.

I'm now after any breeding or info for the mare Gypsy Gold, I think she was with Mrs S A Nicholson in Ireland and that Mrs Nicholson also bred all those good ponies, Pretty Polly, etc etc. all by Naseel.

How about BWLCH MASQUERADE 1966, sire MCGREDY/dam BWLCH MINUET, I dont remember this one...
Cheers Sue
Nimlat Posted - 18 Nov 2010 : 9:26:25 PM

Hi Sue, I think you will find the stallion is Covert Rhu - no N.
Though on allbreeds he is entered with both spellings. I have pics of
Kavora Kind Sir and Shandon at shows which you might already have.
I might be able to email them to you because my computer is not responding properly to scanning etc.
p.s. I had never heard of Bwlch Sigi/Sigl!!
Rozy Rider Posted - 15 Nov 2010 : 11:19:07 AM
WOW you've all been very busy, Thank You..Great result.
Thanks for the pic..Kind Sir is the 13.2h Grey.
Grey Leg looks lovely tooo. Great link, just checking out that Silverspray.
Gems Signet was gelded and went under saddle to gain much fame, Ali Patterson was also jockey for them.
Benochy Rhu (RPS 87 & PBAR) I can find no link to Convert Rhu..so is not related (Yet). Bennochy Rhu was by Shandon with the 1931 Shagya Basa on the dams sire line.(they are all in there too).
Plus it looks like Mrs Coats was Stella's Godmother..then.

Great Ponies, Lovely Times.
Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated.
Sue

It's also used as the stud prefix for cocker spaniels - could the same person be breeding ponies?

Have found this link to pic of Kavora Kind Sir (don't think it's a commercial site)

But, this snippet says that Stella Harris's Godmother has the Kavora pony prefix...now wondering if that is Mrs Coats.

According to Central Prefix Register:
Names Found - KAVORA
Owners - MRS COATES
Breed Society - VETOED PREFIXES

Callisto Posted - 14 Nov 2010 : 5:06:42 PM
Do you mean Trevi, 1903 chestnut TB mare by Love Wisely 1893, chestnut (Wisdom x Lovelorn) out of Tiber 1896, brown (St. Angelo x Pampeluna)?

She was the dam of Silver Spray (1912)(by Grey Leg)

Also foaled Nivolnice (also found her listed as Nevolnice) in 1908 by St Serf, a filly.
Roman Slave, mare by St Serf 1909
Tresor 1914,bay colt by Santry

Hi Jean, Here is Mr Chips - 1943, but no breeding.
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/kavora+chips

Kavora Kind Sir has a lovely pic..looks like the Royal winning, in one of the old NPS Reviews, no breeding for that one either yet.. But I've found that Deptfords have their name as owner/breeder of another Kavora pony (NPS) and now wondering if this was their prefix ??????

But, this snippet says that Stella Harris's Godmother has the Kavora pony prefix...now wondering if that is Mrs Coats.

'Stella Harries – President since 2008, Stella began her illustrious showing career riding her Godmothers’ Kavora ponies including winning Richmond Royal Horse Show at the age of 11 yrs on Kavora Chips and being a champion at HOYS on two occasions.'

Kavora Bridesmaid - 1970 (Gems Signet/My Pretty Maid) is recorded as:-
Owner/Breeder. Mr A. Deptford. NPS.RPM.2333.

and I understand that Benochy Rhu ??, was also from the Convert Rhu family.

Spot on...Thanks Sue
weirton Posted - 13 Nov 2010 : 3:34:47 PM

Wasn't there a pony called Kavora Chips who won at Richmond and HOYS with Stella Harries as a child? The name Mrs. Coates comes to mind as connected but could easily be wrong, the memory is pretty hopeless.

In a snippet view of GSB Vol 28 I have found a mention of a Covert Rhu. Couldn't get it up properly but copied and pasted what appears to be listed below.

Convert Rhu (1914), by The Convert, out of Princess Rhu, by Red Prince II.
