Posted - 28 Aug 2010 : 2:02:54 PM Any info about these two ladies from around the 1900@s both ladies hunted...and In the Carmarthen area, living at Llwyn y Brain or near Landeilo. Mrs Margaret Pryse-Rice owned the 18 or so couples of cross bred hounds and when her husband gave up the hunting, she took over and hunted the country of Carmarthenshire & Brecknockshire with the Hare Hunting Harriers.
My interest is that when Mrs Betty returned to England/Wales with Sahara in 1914, she went to live in the area and continued hunting with this pack and the Carmarthen Foxhounds, who still reside at Travers Rest today, riding the white import Sahara must have turned a few heads..someone might have written about it... Its quite likly that these ladies were well know to each other, and to the Huntsman & Whip from the Carmarthen Hunt of that time...Mr Thomas Davies & Mr Philip Davies..the later owning Cigarette in 1927.
Anyone turn anything up to link these ladies in and around the 1900's I'd be please to see it..and if there is any link back to the Carmarthen Hunt and the stallion Sahara, I'd be pleased to see it..or get its reference... I bet there eyeballs were on cork screws when they saw Mrs Betty riding Sahara....
Just adding that Mrs Maragaret Pryce Rice was a member of the Hunter Improvement Society at that time and Philip Davies was the whip with the Carmarthen Foxhounds.
Many of the local hunts kept there own stallions and some had them travelling to cover mare in the area.
Cheers Sue
Thank you... Still on the trail of Cigarette and her sir and dam...
